Dolly needs to be lovable behind her blustering exterior. LuPone does not have that lovable core.
I could see her playing Horace Vandergelder, tho.

I guess you've never seen Patti singing "Never Never Land" to her newborn baby on Life Goes On. It was very moving. She's capable of anything.

ANYWAYS.... Lupone has expressed interest in doing DOLLY but has she ever sung something from it in concerts? I looked on youtube to find some stuff but I came up empty. Imagine how chilling " So long dearie" would sound with her magnificent Vibrato. I think I am gonna go watch Hello Dolly exuse me

Corky was not a newborn.

That is a misleading article. The bottom fell out in November of 2008. Stats for the 2007-08 season are not relevant. Fact is, Gypsy hung on until December but the economy did it in, as well as the fact that it was simply too soon for a revival, and the last revival hadn't been very good at all.

ANYWAYS....Jerry Herman has said NO to her doing the show.

She had another baby while the show was on.

Well Jerry Herman is a bitter old man. I'm not too impressed with anything he has to say.

Personally, I would LOVE for Jerry Herman to actually write a new score/show.
All arguing aside, does anyone think he will? Does he even have the inclination?

Jerry Herman is too busy at Numbers on Santa Monica Blvd to write a new show.

"And you also obviously don't know that the only real way for a show that size to make money nowadays is to put a bankable A+ list movie star in the lead role."
And *you* obviously don't know that none of the current top-grossing hits on Broadway feature an A+ list movie star (Wicked, Kinky Boots, Motown, Matilda, Cinderella, Newsies...)

I HIGHLY doubt Herman would write a new show. I think it would be great for Patti cause Dolly is such a Hammy and larger than life character that and I am sure Lupone would sink into it easily.

could you imagine on Tony night with five divas in the leading actress in a musical catergory.
Lupone in Hello, Dolly!
Midler in Mame
Idina Menzel in If/Then
Jan Maxwell in Minsky's
Lea Michelle in Funny Girl
(again, go by the nominees, not the shows itself).

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I really don't care what bar he goes to or what his personal life is like.
What I do care about is whether he will produce another great Broadway musical.

I think the likelihood of Lansbury doing DOLLY! is greater than Midler OR LuPone at this point.

At age 81 I'd be surprised if he wrote another great musical score.

I love Angela Lansbury but can't see her paying Dolly- and especially at her age.
