Miss Saigon needs a Broadway revival, it closed in 2001 and is an amazing musical that is pure genius, who else is with me that it deserves to be revived?

Lea Salonga is the soul of the show. She sets a standard that is basically unsurpassable.

As wonderful as Salonga was in the role (I only saw her during her return to the role later in the run, when she was outstanding, but lacked a rawness that I imagine she had the first time), I saw a number of other terrific actresses in the role during the run of that production- Elizabeth Paw (my favorite after Salonga), DeeDee Magno, and Roxanna Taga were all excellent.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound rude, but you know it IS being revived right? Or are you just saying that it deserves to be revived? In that case, yes, it certainly does!

Speculation had Miss Saigon going into the Imperial. Now that we know Natash, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 is there, where are the most likely options for Miss Saigon?
Fiddler sales haven't been stellar but I'm not sure this closes in time to open up the Broadway, which I think would have been the 2nd choice for Miss Saigon.
What else seems likely? I'm really caught off guard by this because I thought for sure, with the timing of Les Miserables closing, it was a done deal that Miss Saigon was going to the Imperial.

Here are some other options:
- Belasco Theatre
- Broadhurst Theatre (depending how long Tuck would end up Everlasting)
- Ethel Barrymore Theatre (depending how much longer Curious Incident lasts)
- Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (depending how long American Psycho lasts)
- Longacre Theatre (I’d be surprised if Nerds ends up having a long run)
- Music Box Theatre (depending how long Shuffle Along lasts)
- Shubert Theatre (depending how much longer Matilda lasts)
- Winter Garden Theatre (depending how long School of Rock will last)

My guess is the Longacre, though I'm sure Cameron already has a plan.

It would need a big theater, stage & seat wise, to make it profitable. Some in the list previously given are not in that category. If not the Broadway, I have not got a clue where it would go.

How many others here saw the revival in London? With all due respect to Lea, Eva's interpretation of Kim surpassed every expectation I had for her, and then some. The audiences here are going to love the presence and big voice, fragility and strength she brings to Kim. Jon Jon Briones is also going to be hugely popular as the Engineer.

I suggested this in the Natasha and Pierre thread, but could the show possibly go into the Hudson Theatre?

Absolutely not. Miss Saigon is a "megamusical" and needs a theatre twice the size of the Hudson. I'm aware this is a smaller production, but the Hudson will not be a viable option for most musicals.

The original was one of the worst things I ever had to sit through. It may be the worst show and score in the history of Broadway. Never speak of it again and listen to "There's a Small Hotel" for starters..the score is all stolen from other composers, Also, terrible.

I've always maintained the opinion Saigon would take the Shubert when all is said and done.

The Longacre looks like it could be a strong contender at this point. It could use the rest of the year to do any renovations that need to be done and Miss Saigon could swoop in once the new year hits.

It's a Megamusical, it can't play there. Although.... Jesus Christ Superstar moved from the Mark Hellinger to the Longacre.

And this production has a smaller scale than the original meaning that it could theoretically fit into a smaller house. I do remember that there was a lot of empty stage space when I saw it in London, so maybe a smaller venue could help propel the emotion of the production.

with this afternoon's announcement of Matilda closing on January 1, I'd say it looks like the Shubert could indeed be Miss Saigon's new home.

Sad to hear. Wonderful show.
I will say I've had a feeling since forever Miss Saigon announced its Broadway plans that Matilda would close to make room for it. (See my post above and in like ever other Saigon Broadway thread. Also, sorry.)
I do wonder if I'll be proven right, though I suppose Charlie could sneak in.
