A new regional production of Miss Saigon directed by Broadway veteran Jim Corti opened over the weekend at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora to stellar reviews from the Chicago critics. Having seen it myself over the weekend, I would agree that the Paramount Theatre has quickly become one of the best Chicago based regional theatres producing high quality Broadway worthy revival productions. Their Annie last season was far superior to the recent Broadway revival (and I saw both). Reviews below and a short video montage follows:

Posted: 11/7/13 at 6:24pmIt's nice to see a production that isn't simply replicating the Broadway staging. The costumes don't look quite right for the period though. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure the standard US army uniform in the early to mid 1970s was not camouflage.

I can't say I like the costumes all that much, but I don't think it's unusual to have soldiers wearing camouflage at that time.

I think its unlikely that it'll be coming to Broadway because Cameron Mackintosh is already planning the first West End revival to open up in the spring, and if that's successful enough, it could lead to a Broadway transfer.
And for the record, I loved the current Broadway production of Annie!
