Much better than the night we arrived at Lincoln Center after a flight into New York specifically to see her do Anything Goes. Nothing was happening. At about 8:15 they finally announced that "tonight the role of Reno Sweeney will be played by Linda Hart", and then the show started about 15 minutes after that. About a fourth of the audience left. Since we couldn't rebook, we stayed. Rumor was that she simply never showed up that night.

I don't think her movement was affected in any way----she did the move you mentioned. I couldn't tell that she had any foot problems at all. (She was just very short) :)

If it didn't have any effect on the performance, I think it was kind of stupid to make an announcement like that. Glad she's okay, though.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what?

Yeah, something like that happened at my performance:
(beginning of Act II)
"Ladies and Gentlemen, for Act II, the role of-"
BUSTOPHERPHANTOM: ...
"-Hollywood Blonde #2 will be played by someone else. To BustopherPhantom: The role of Louise will still be played by the wonderful Laura Benanti."

When I saw Gypsy I had a similar moment. The announcer said that "Patti Lupone was feeling under the weather (very long pause, atleast it felt like it) But in true theater fashion she will be going on with the show" After that I was able to breathe. We were actually sitting all the way in the back on the aisle of the row she walks down and we could hear her coughing the whole time before she enters, but she definately made the show memorable for my mom and I.

Wasn't part of the "Anything Goes" issue a burst blood vessel in her neck from improper singing during "Evita"? Cause I know one night she was at the theatre getting ready to go on, and all of a sudden had no voice. And then missed the rest of the week and came back full, strong, and supporting herself.

(She was just very short)
she has to have some of the highest character shoes I've ever seen; she's very short.

Was such an announcement necessary and did they really specify "ISOTONERS"? I mean, was it a product endorsement? Couldn't they just say she hurt her foot but would be performing. People would probably understand why she didnt have the heels on. They seem to announce every time something is off with Patti and then the poster says they would have never noticed because Patti was wonderful.I think it is a given that Patti is a pro and weathers all sorts of ups and downs. I dont remember her falling down during Rose's Turn.

is it wrong that I'd be obscenely amused watching her play Rose while wearing those?

me too, givesmevoice. That would be a hoot. Thanks for posting the pic Brody, so we got the visual. It would be even better if she did the part in big fuzzy slippers or slippers that looked like animal paws or something. Actually, isotoners dont seem to offer any support. You would think she might want running shoes or something instead if she hurt her foot. Rose in Asics Gels would be HOT!

well, saying that someone hurt their foot could mean a lot of things, couldn't it? it could mean she broke a bone or she has a bitchin' blister on her heel.

Maybe her foot was sore because she kicks so much butt in this show?
