Yeah, I'm sure a thread has been started about this many months ago, but it's time for a new one. And if not, well, then, lucky me!
Anyways, I was listening to Urinetown, and I remembered how, during "Run, Freedom, Run", the song stops and the audience laughs for about a full minute when Bobby does his 'thing' to Little Sally and Jennifer Cody's character.
What other moments are there where there's just non-stop laughter or applause (after a song)? I can think of:
- The "Run Freedom Run" moment I just cited
- "Be Our Guest"
- "Dirty Rotten Number"
- "You Won't Succeed On Broadway"
Anyone?

the curtain call of many shows
you know, non-stop applause for about 2-3 minutes...
:)
This pertains to more of the applause part:
-Everything's Coming up Roses- Bernadette in the latest Gypsy revival
- A Little Priest- ST revival
- I'll never forget after Lot's Wife, a group of older 60ish African American women yelling "Amen sister". I looked over and couldn't help smiling. Beautiful piece of theater.

-I agree with "Dirty Rotten Number", especially after Norbert's little riff
-"Keep it Gay"
-Also agree with "You won't succeed on Broadway"
-Some performances of "Popular", depending on how great the Glinda is
-The "jerky" moment in DRS, usually has the audience in stitches
-"Fable", had huge applause, at least when I was there
-tons of moments in Spamalot
The last volunteer speller in Spelling Bee. :)
After the Dynamites finish their reprise of "Welcome to the 60s". The audience erupts with wild cheers and applause everytime.
The line about Bush in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. and sometimes other parts of "All About Ruprecht"
"Great Big Stuff" sometimes also

With or without his privates?
Liza in CHICAGO was crazy.
Her entrance literally stopped the show cold, the music had to stop, everything had to stop.
Also after her performance of MY OWN BEST FRIEND, the applause and cheers just didn't stop. It kept going and going.
What she did for the original production of Chicago was amazing.
"Bring Him Home" on the national tour of Les Mis as performed by Randall Keith brought down the house for a good ten minutes.
In DRS, "The Bushes of Tex were nervous wrecks..." had the audience roaring.
"Springtime for Hitler" has both the laughter and the applause if it's a good audience.

i remember when i saw Spamalot and when Sara Ramirez sings those last few lines of Find Your Grail, oh my god! we were all going crazy and people cheered for what seemed like 5 minutes.
Sweeney Todd in concert, on the cd during A Little Priest when Patti said the line, "with or without his privates?...with is extra!!!" she, George Hearn and the audience were laughing soooo hard for atleast 30 seconds, just absolutely howling. And no matter how many times I hear that song and i have listened to it AT LEAST 70 times i crack up. the timing is inpecable.
When i saw Light in the Piazza in the song Aiutami, Signora Naccarelli says, "I don't speak English but I HAVE to tell you what's going on!" and everyone started cheering and laughing
In La Cage aux folles after The Best of Times when Gary Beach (Zaza) rips off his wig, I was bent over gasping for air, laughing and people were screaming and laughing for about 2 minutes.
Then like every other line in The Producers people started cheering and laughing hysterically

Ultimately, Jennifer Holliday doing AND I'M TELLING YOU is the biggest audience response I've ever participated in. It verged on frightening. People running down the aisles, people standing on their seats (like me) - it really was like the second coming.

the WHOLE "Ruprecht" song in DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS brought down the house, everyone was laughing hysterically, myself included
and "popular" in WICKED
also many many lines in SPELLING BEE, particularly the sentences said by Panch
all of these have been previously mentioned, so yeah...
I second the post about Panch lines. Especially:
Potatoe Chips: The Mexican Lettuce
That line has causes an uproar everytime I see the show.

i loved the Panch line, forgot exactly how it went, but "Put that *something* down, Paul, we're Episcapalean!!!"
:P
Yes! And the line about hiding behind the western wall because there is a Jihaad coming. :)
That show is so damn funny!
The first time I saw Brooklyn (Yea, I actually liked and and saw it more than once) Eden got a standing voation mid show right after Streetsinger. I've never seen someone get a standing ovation until curtain call. It was awesome!

how about during "Once Upon A Time"? You'd think there'd be a major standing ovation after Eden belted that out!
Ah yes, who can forget the hilarious Panch definitions from Bee? The last time I was there, the one for "cenacle" had the audience rolling.
"In the cenacle, Jesus said 'I am a Jew, but tonight one of you will betray me, so I'm ordering the shrimp.'"
Hilarious!

When Harvey Fierstein as Edna had that one line towards the bitchy blonde, in the second act, and he lowers his voice and goes "What did you sayyyy?"
Similarly, the catfight in The Color Purple. People were flipping out.
Several lines in Jersey Boys, like the hotel bathrooms... non-stop laughter.
"Put that *something* down, Paul, we're Episcapalean!!!"
Haha. Phylactery.
When I saw Piazza, you literally saw the full theater JUMP to their feet when Victoria Clark came out for her curtain call. It stopped much after the cast got offstage (they had to stay a while, with all of the applause).
My mom's friend said when she saw BATB, the whole theatre stood up and applauded while the Beast and Belle came down the stairs for the title song. I wish I could've seen it. I adore that show.
When I saw Rent recently, there was a group of young girls screaming and clapping at the end of "Seasons of Love" for what seemed like forever. I was relieved when "Happy New Year" started and they began to shut up.
