Mooing in theatres

Ugh, people mooed when I saw it. It was totally distracting. All right people, this is not Rocky Horror, nor is this live theatre with audience participation. Idina is not talking directly to you. Instead, Maureen is talking to the people who went to her performance/protest. No need to moo. If you're seeing the stage show, sure, moo all you want. But mooing at a large silver screen, that's just plain silly and really disturbing to those who don't know what's going on or to those who just want to watch the movie without distraction. Be respectful, please. It's a public movie theatre and not your own personal home theatre.

Well no one mooed in my theater tonight but the people next to me were so obnoxious I could have killed them for ruining it for me. The first thing they did was HUM along with Seasons of Love [the only song they knew apparently] and since no one else was doing it, it was really annoying. And then whenever Joanne and Maureen or Collins and Angel kissed they would say "Thats Disgusting!" and "What a liberal movie". They laughed at the I'll Cover You Reprise, which made me want to hurl my drink in their faces. It was the most emotional moment of the film and they ruined it for me. Then they would make a comment every time Collins put his arm around Roger, or Roger and Mark hugged or anything akin to that, wondering out loud if they were all gay. And at the last shot of Angel they were like "OH WOW FINGERNAIL POLISH, LOOK AT THAT HAHA". Not to mention that their cell phones rang and they were playing on their phones many times during the movies. Oh and they smelled bad too, lol. But I guess that's beside the point. And this was only two people!
And they wonder why people don't want to go to the movies anymore? It's people that treat the movies like they are at home and can do whatever they want. Hopefully the next time I see Rent I won't have obnoxious people next to me. It's unlikely, but I guess a girl can dream right?

Posted: 11/24/05 at 11:57amThe showing I went to was sold out. I didn't want to moo because I thought it would be rude to the other people in the theater. But, when the time came, EVERYONE was mooing! It was hysterical! So I just started mooing with them. I guess it's ok to moo if the rest of the theater is doing it, but if it isn't, it might be disruptive to those around you. I'm glad my theater mooed :)

Judas,
No, you DON'T rock...
It's okay for you to moo DURING the film, but someone can't sing in the black before the movie even started?
Pot, meet the kettle.

Right, I'll tolerate my own mooing, but singing of preppy-non RENT knowing girls is unforgivable.

God, some of you people really do suck. A lot.
I mooed, along with the rest of the theater. Nobody complained. A good time was had by all.
Seriously, look at how worked up some of you pathetic people are getting over this.

One of the new video clips on the RENT blog is Idina answering the question, "Do You Want The Audience In The Movie Theater To Moo Back At You?" Tracie offers her opinion, too. I thought it was interesting after reading everyone's opinions here.

"It IS a big deal!"
My friend, I think you need to get your priorities straight.
And from the blog interview, you now know that they WANT you to have fun! Participation is expected. Moo, and get that stick out of your ass.

I thought so too ihearttheatre!
haha, anyway.. I disagree, participation isn't expected. If you get into the song enough that you feel the need to moo, then moo. Just make sure you know that others are in the theatre with you, so respect is always important. [aka don't get out of control, haha].
