What nominees did you want to win that didn't?
P.S. - Is it me or was this show just horrible?
While it isn't a surprise, I think this was a huge upset - Spamalot was NOT worthy of best musical.
At least La Cage won - that should help it.
Poor DRS and David Yazbek got royaly screwed.
Congrats to Piazza for its winS!
YAY FOR PIAZZA!!!
I love Sara so much but Kelli's performance really deserved to win. And I haven't seen Bee but I adore Matt in this role.
I liked Spam alot but I didn't want it to win anything. I would've been so happy if any of the other three had won. That opening comment by the Spam producer makes me so angry. That's what happens when the investors are also the voters, oy!
I think that Spamalot deserved it.
DRS did get screwed.
I wish Matt would have won...

I wanted more Tonys for Piazza (Morrison and O'Hara), but at least it won the most Tonys of any show (musical or play)!
it should have been matt morisson, keli o hara, and drs or light in piazza for best musical
Yeah, that producer should be slapped.
I think Dan Fogler deserved the Tony. He's hilarious and he just embodies the character so well.
I really wanted James Lapine to win. I think he, in addition to the cast, is what really made Spelling Bee such a wonderful show. I didn't like Mike Nichols's direction. At the end of Spamalot, is was like, "What?!" It could have been a lot better if he found a better way to tie stuff in and piece the sketches together.
I would have liked to see either Kelli or Celia win for Featured Actress.

O and either Piazza or Spelling Bee for Best Musical.
DRS was definitely fun, but I liked the other two better.

It's a sad day for theatre that Spamalot won Best Musical.

It seems to me this argument happens every year, just with different show names.
Last year it was AQ vs Wicked.
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
You know, even though I wanted Wicked to win - I as happy AQ did win just the same.
This year was just a complete outrage.

matt had no business winning. I was glad he was nominated but the Tony's actually went who they belonged to this year. Who knew...Tony's for art...for once.

Maybe to you....

However, I do think that Matt(should he choose to pursue more theater) and Kelli will have other chances, whereas I'm not too sure that Dan will, so I guess it's good that he won......
Also, there was a thread about the musical acting awards going to an actor from each new musical......and they did!!!!!!
Tony's for art...for once. - Spamalot...art? HAHAHAHAHA

You know what MTVMANN - That was the ebst thing I read all night - it's true. Kelli was amazing in two shows this year - I am sure she will one day win a tony. Matt has proven himself to be quite a versatile actor and will have other shots.
I posted the same thing last night, right after the Tonys ended. I was sad that Matt didn't win, but I am sure he will have many more chances in the future, since he is so charismatic and incredibly talented !

well, personally, i liked matt and kelli the best and wanted them both to win more than anyone else. BUT.. i was the one who mtvmann is quoting. i said that i thought the four acting awards would go one to each of "the big 4" of the musical shows...
butz-drs
clark-piazza
fogler-bee
ramirez-spam
the only thing i regret is the lack of drs in the big 4 awards. it should have either gotten best musical or best director, and spam could've gotten the other. i'm really sad about that.

Kelli's time will come, don't worry I think we can all bank on her having an acceptance speech sometime in the near future.
Otherwise I am still on a bit of a Piazza high, so I cannot bitch when I am content.
Maybe later when I come down...

i know she will... but her role in this show should have been acknowledged.
I guess out of everything let's see..
DRS for musical
Jack O'Brien for director
Morrison for featured actor
Ramirez/O'Hara tie for featured actress
Guess those are the only ones I really wanted. I wouldn't have minded if Yazbeck got to tie with Guettel to be honest, oh well.
DRS FOR MUSICAL
Jack O'Brien for director
Matt Morrison for featured
I was a little irked by Dan Fogler winning...but do we really think that he's ever going to get the chance to win again? He did this one role brilliantly (his small little performance at the Tonys got my friends who weren't really interested in the show to suddenly be like, "oooh...I should see this") but the likelihood that he'll ever have this sort of opportunity again is small. I have faith that Matt and Chris Sieber will have many more chances for the big prize.
And, yeah, of course, I would have loved Piazza to have won more awards...namely Kelli and Best musical :0) And Lapine for director as well...

I havent seen BEE, but I thought Matt deserved to win out of the rest of the guys. I was hoping for an upset there. I too figured each of the acting awards would go to a different show tho.

MATTHEW MORRISON
It upsets me that he didn't win yesterday night. I wish that he did, and he definitely deserved it. He plays a difficult role in Piazza, singing half the show in Italian and using an accent every time he opens his mouth. I was DEFINITELY rooting for him, and it really stinks that he didn't win... and I did not think that Fogler deserved the Tony either.
Kelli O'Hara... I was also rooting for her, and I was so disheartened that she didn't win either. She is also great in Piazza, and while I think that Sara Ramirez is great... I was rooting for Piazza all the way.
I don't understand why bee was nominated in the first place... no offense to the ones who like it, but I don't understnad what is so appealing about it. Their "musical number" had mainly talking from almost all of the characters... it was kind of funny, but definitely not Tony-worthy and I don't quite deserve that... then again, neither was Christina Applegate either
