Most songs I can pinpoint what it is that really gets me; it's not hard to make me cry, really. But when I first heard "The Night that Goldman Spoke at Union Square" on the Ragtime OBC, and subsequent times, I was just WRENCHED with emotion that I couldn't figure out. I don't know why, but that (AND "He Wanted to Say") just do me in.

"It's really crazy backstage. Just before the show started, Elaine Stritch got into a fight with stage hand, and then inexplicably started squeezing Hugh Jackman's buttocks. And by the time they had sedated her, she had punched out two cops and was holding Norbert Leo Butz hostage, threatening to kill one of his three names." -Nathan Lane

"I Don't Care Much" - it's chilling, but I'm not sure why!
Rosencrantz: "Be happy - if you're not even HAPPY what's so good about surviving? We'll be all right. I suppose we just go on."

"Hushaby Mountain....only with Raul"
I agree. It was so pretty when he sang it.
I also really like Sabbath Prayer from Fiddler. I saw it done at a high school for Cappies and I nominated this song as Best Song. It was gorgeous.

I second a lot of what has already been mentioned.
One that really gets me is "If I Never Knew You" from Pocahontas. Now...I realize that this was never on broadway and the song was actually cut from the movie, but the song is beautiful and heartbreaking.
"How Could I Ever Know" is heartbreaking to me for similar reasons.

Zoran that's the song I was trying to think of but just didn't say.
How Could I Ever Know. That is a sweet song that generally makes me tear up a bit.

A lot of things from Ragtime always get me teary-eyed, but the one that really does it is "Till We Reach That Day". Its just glorious.
However, the most touching song Ive ever heard is Godspeed(Sail On) from Titanic. It is one of the most beautiul melodies I have ever heard. Every time I hear it, I am pouring tears at the end of it. It so brilliantly expresses an emotion that the rest of the musical failed at. Although there are other good songs, the musical never affected me in the way that this amazing song does, because of the clumsy book and the high school sets. This song to me encompasses all the emotions and wonder and power of all that is Titanic, and makes you feel them many times more than the show, or the movie. Everyone-go listen to this and see what I mean..

Look Over There from La Cage. I had never heard it until I saw the revival and my goodness, it just reduced me to tears. Maybe it has something to do with being divorced and a mom...geez.

The Finale from Wicked. Always chokes me up. And from Carousel, "You'll Never Walk Alone."
Yes, I'm pinay. And I'm proud of it!

"In His Eyes" - I don't know why...just does.
"The Fire Within Me" - I dunno. The lyrics just really...get to me.
"Aiutami" - God, the beginning melody that Fabrizio sings is just so...chilling.

"Nobody Needs To Know" - The Last 5 Years - I listen to it and I get this horrible ache in my gut. It's so heartbreaking!
"The Fire Within Me" - Little Women - especially the part where she sings, "How can that be lost forever?/How when I gave everything with all my heart?" and when her voice breaks on "unexpected". *unspellable noise of curiously touchedness*
"I Have Dreamed" - A Grand Night For Singing - I haven't heard the arrangement from The King and I for a looooong time, but this Grand Night arrangement just KILLS me.
