Most Quotable Musical
re: Most Quotable Musical#25
Posted: 1/28/06 at 12:27pmThe Wizard of Oz by a ton, if it counts. I'd say that's even one of the most quoted movies ever overall.

Posted: 1/28/06 at 12:28pmI think that you can insert a quote from RENT into just about any conversation, I know I do, lol. I hear one word and I immediately say a line in RENT inolving it..odd..lol.
re: Most Quotable Musical#27
Posted: 1/28/06 at 12:38pmI quote West Side Story all the time. Whenever anyone says "Could be"...I always just break out. "Who knows? There's something due any day. I will know right away...soon as it shows..." I can't freakin' help it! But of all time...I would agree with Gypsy.

Rent for me. I swear it comes up in everyday conversation far too often. ::nod::
Wicked and Aida pop up a lot too.

I too think it depends on what you mean by quotable. When I think of a show that spurns some of the most profound stuff or very easily used in High School yearbooks, I think RENT. Not to say it's more profound, but it certainly is more relevant I think than some of the older shows.
Of course there are other shows that can easily be quoted, sometimes w/o people even realizing it...I've grown accustomed to her face, and umm okay not many are coming to mind but I know they exist, just on the tip of my tongue.
re: Most Quotable Musical#31
Posted: 1/28/06 at 4:09pmI gotta say, for everyday quotes by the average population, it's Wizard of Oz...not many non-theatre people i know can quote Rent.
re: Most Quotable Musical#32
Posted: 1/28/06 at 4:28pmOh Rent, by far! I quote Rent in my daily life. Drives my friends crazy though... :)
re: Most Quotable Musical#33
Posted: 1/28/06 at 6:57pmI quote Rent all time.....and wicked....but no one picks up on those ones.
re: Most Quotable Musical#35
Posted: 1/28/06 at 9:36pmWicked has quotable concepts- I find myself thinking "No good deed goes unpunished all the time."

But - with Katurian's example and Patronus' example - these expressions were around BEFORE the show. The show quoted them.
Like "Don't rain on my parade" ...

That's a good point, BS.
Thanks for shooting a hole through my logic.
Of course, I suppose if you quote them because of the musical then it counts.

You don't have to rub it in. I mean all I care about is love the rest, like life, is just a bowl of cherries.

Posted: 1/29/06 at 12:09amRent-I could find 100 quotes if I had too. Each week on my daily planner I have a different quote from that musical.
re: Most Quotable Musical#43
Posted: 1/29/06 at 12:23amI too would say the Wizard of Oz. And if that doesn't count, for me personally, it would be Cabaret, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Into the Woods.

Before I even opened this topic I immediatly thought of RENT.
So along with all the others, I'd go with RENT.

Posted: 1/29/06 at 1:28am"Gypsy"! It's quoted at least twice in "Hairspray": When Penny says, "I'm a pretty girl mamma" and at the end of the song in the jail when Edna sings out "For Me". It's also in "The Producers" (the play). The doorbell at the home of Roger DeBris plays "I Feel Pretty".
