I ran a contest asking the question -- what is the most underrated show you've ever seen on a New York stage -- and got some interesting answers:
Most Underrated Shows on Broadway
But what would you select?

Definitially Tuck Everlasting! The cast, music, it was all amazing! Other than that, I think [Title of Show] closed pretty quickly and was not given enough appreciation.
Groundhog Day
American Psycho
Deaf West's Spring Awakening revival
Right now? War Paint.
Of all time? Caroline, or Change
Of recent shows, I agree about TUCK EVERLASTING. Maybe not "most" but definitely didn't get it's due. I adored the ending ballet sequence detailing Winnie's life. Plus, I adore Carolee and always love seeing her perform. Just a sweet little show that I'm sure will have a long regional life.
Beyond recents, I would say PARADE. I never saw the Broadway production, only a few regionals. This show has really touched me, and I'm neither Jewish nor Southern, but I'm always moved when I listen to the recording.

Caroline or Change is proving itself prescient (as other threads have pointed out), with its subplot about the toppling of a Confederate monument.
I'll repeat Caroline, or Change, and add Passing Strange.
Bandstand
American Psycho
Honeymoon in Vegas
shows that should have run longer that I feel where underrated:
Pippin revival
Assassins revival
Sweeney Todd revival
La Cage aux Folles 2nd revival
PARADE
FALSETTOS
IF/THEN
right now
War Paint
Bandstand
The Play that Goes Wrong
Notables of the recent past
Bonnie and Clyde
Honeymoon in Vegas
American Psycho

Without a doubt Great Comet. This show is truly a revelation for Broadway, original in all the ways Hamilton was painted to be (but it isn't just a colonial rip off of another show). The drama and controversy was unwarranted and a truly brilliant piece of theater should have had a much longer life.
I avoided the book, I avoided the film in theaters and on TV. I'm not a fan of chick flick lit, as a rule.
But somebody gave me free tix to the first stop on THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY tour.
I was so deeply moved I couldn't talk about it for several days. I have no idea why it didn't run longer in NYC.

Currently I would say The Play That Goes Wrong and Groundhog Day!
