How does the Delacorte usually announce rain cancellations or delays? Will there be something on the Public's website if they decide not to perform tonight?
In advance, thanks!
They just cancel and everyone who waited has to wait again to get a ticket to another performance.

Also if it does go on, i think you can get cancellation tickets from the snobs that don't have to wait.

I believe you have to show up and they usually wait until 8:15 or 8:30 before calling the show for rain.
Like the time Audra McDonald's Summer Stage Central Park concert was called for rain 30 minutes after it was supposed to start.
Lets talk about the saddest day of my LIFE!

I saw the show in the rain on Sunday Night. And I must say, it was the perfect climate for this production. Meryl jumped in the mud, and then proceeded to slap it on her face. It was an incredible performance all around.

From a prior post on this thread...
"... the snobs that don't have to wait.."
What does that mean??

Production, friends of production, sponsors and celebs...don't have to wait.
Thank you Brain. I wish more people were aware of this. It's like a caste system.
"Mother Courage in the rain" came alive last night. As everyone in NY would now, it was raining last night and CHILLY. However, Mother Courage still went on. After five hours of waiting for tickets, I was really nervous about a cancellation, but Meryl Streep and company insisted upon going right on with the play.
It was absolutely breath-taking to watch her perform while we were sitting shivering and wet in our seats. She is the most dedicated actor I have ever seen. Kevin Kline (who was also wonderful) put his coat on her back in one scene where she was only wearing a light shirt. It made me burst into tears. And then, at the end of the first act, she has a place in the song where she throws herself on the ground right in front of where the wood part ends and there is dirt (which of course was mud last night) and she just went for it. Amazing. Just amazing. It was very interesting to watch especially with this play because her character sacrifices everything for her business and survival, and then there's this actress playing her who is sacrificing all the energy and emotion she has for her audience.
In the final scene of the play (after her character has lost all three of her children), she was alone on stage with only her business wagon she pulls from town to town. And there was Meryl Streep pulling this rather large wagon by herself around and around the stage sopping wet from head to toe before her character just collapsed on the stage and the lights went down. It was totally worth the 5 hours of waiting and sitting in the rain. What an amazing company.
That's really cool of them. I would of went to get tickets this morning if I knew that a few hours ago. I was just too scared to wait forever and then have the play get cancelled. But last night it was only drissling, tonight it's supposed to be more. Does anyone know if I'd still be ablt to pay for a ticket for tonight???
I was at the performance last night too...
Just a few more little stories:
In their second pause for rain, Meryl bounded onto the stage with a large towel, fell to her knees, and mopped the stage dry, stood up, and gave us a look that clearly said: "DO NOT CANCEL US NOW. I NEED TO FINISH THIS PERFORMANCE. LET'S GOOOOOOO!"
And....As soon as the lights came back up after the final blackout, she screamed and jumped in triumph of having finished the show, dripping wet. Then, for her bow, she ran to the lip of the stage, and shouted "I F*CKING LOVE YOU!!!!!!"
Bless her.
THAT is what theatre is really all about.
Congrats to those who saw that performance.
Bigger congrats to Meryl Streep for making it a performance that people will never forget.

Wow. What an incredible company. I'm sure that must have been an amazing theatrical experience for all who went. Damn, I have so much respect for Meryl Streep. Even more so due to that story than before.
