Moulin Rouge to Broadway
re: Moulin Rouge to Broadway#25
Posted: 6/27/04 at 10:20amI cant see Sutton playing Satine. She is too average. Yes she is beautiful but Satine needs to be overwelmingly beautiful with enormous sexual appeal.

Well, actually I wasn't kidding. I guess that labels me. I suppose that, speaking as one of the posters from when this board was INTERESTING and void of shills and those "fans" who think musical theatre sprang into being with "Aida," I long for the days when posters weren't too lazy to do a search before they wasted everyone's time with their redundant posts.
Shutting up now. As usual.

Posted: 6/27/04 at 5:54pmmy vote goes to susan egan as satine!!!!! she would be awsome!! she looks the part and had the voice for it what do you guys think!!! :)
re: Moulin Rouge to Broadway#30
Posted: 6/27/04 at 5:58pmSusan Egan would ROCK as Satine. I know he is too old for the part, but I think Brian D'Arcy James would play an excellent Christian.
re: Moulin Rouge to Broadway#31
Posted: 6/27/04 at 6:01pmsusan is not to old for the part she is like around the same age as nicole kidman!!! and if susan can play millie then she can cerntainly play satine.
re: Moulin Rouge to Broadway#32
Posted: 6/27/04 at 6:06pmI meant Brian D'Arcy James maybe too old.
re: Moulin Rouge to Broadway#33
Posted: 6/27/04 at 6:36pmHow about Jodi Benson for Satine? i don't think she has been on Broadway in a while, but she's already got the red hair!

I second Susan as Satine. She would look GREAT in those costumes...*drool*
Why am I the only one that can't see Hunter Foster as Christian?? I don't know if it's so much his look that I can't see in the role as his voice. It's so naturally nasally and kinda whiney...it's like a default character voice that would NOT work for Christian.
Just my two cents.

Spider, love the BdJ suggestion. Agree on the age, but love him. A lot. I've said that before....but I do. Love. Moving on....
I've got a feeling that if this ever did happen, it'd be either the same two leads as the movie (and let's not forget Caroline O'Connor reprising the role of Nini), or unknowns. The title is a big enough name in and of itself that it doesn't need stars.
On that note.....Michelle DeJean (currently (i think) in CHICAGO as Mona) would be a fantastic Satine. I like Will Chase for Christian, but he woudln't fit in my "unknown" category. But he's hot, so I'm listing him anyway.

Posted: 6/27/04 at 7:35pmThat would be SO AWESOME! I think that Kerry Butler would make a great Satine, but that is just me. I Love that movie!!!!!!!

Yes, on1y, you ARE the only one who can't see Hunter as Christian. :)
And he's NOT WHINY!!!!
How dare you insult Hunter like that.
I'm kidding, but come on. Hunter is one of the best.
AND NO POKING, DAMNIT!!!!!
re: Moulin Rouge to Broadway#38
Posted: 6/27/04 at 8:22pmI like Hunter and I think he has a great voice, but Christian needs to be someone who has a POWERFUL voice that demands attention. I don't know. Again, majority of us are basing our comments on Ewan McGregor's voice, which was flawless.

I didn't mean to insult Mr. Foster in any way. I like him, he's awesome, I just don't think he'd suite Christian very well. But hey, to each his own, right?
My girlfriend just gave me an interesting suggestion for the penniless poet--Gavin Creel.
What do y'all have to say about that casting?

Damn you, Little Squirrel. Always messing with my conscience.

Anyways, I like Gavin a little better than Hunter when I imagine them both as Christian. I dunno, maybe I have Ewan burnt into my brain.

Posted: 6/27/04 at 9:57pmspiderdj82- Actually, Christian is very shy to begin with so they'd need someone who could grow from a meek boy and finally end up a heartbroken man. Hunter could be good. We all know he can do the meek voice but a few songs in LSoH show that he can have a powerful voice. You're right about people basing their criteria on Ewan though. He was perfect. -Penny

Posted: 6/28/04 at 12:35amThey should just get Ewan for the role. Of course, the stagedoor would be a royal mess and tickets would be sold out forever, but hell, he can sing. He's got a fantastic voice. Plus he's pretty :)

Eh....maybe...I'm still leaning towards Gavin Creel.
Random, completely OT comment about Christian Borle:
His lips are made of rubber.

re: Moulin Rouge to Broadway#49
Posted: 6/28/04 at 2:02pmit is coming to broadway in 2007. there was an article on some theater site about it....baz luhrman (sp) is directing it and neither nicole kidman or ewan mcgregor have made it official yet or signed anything...i dunno about it...its not exactly a family oriented musical.
