Sunset Boulevard is slated for 2010, but no official pre-production stuff happening yet.
Tim Burton is currently doing a non-musical version of Alice in Wonderland; but I would love if he would direct either Into the Woods as a Musical OR Wicked as a straight drama.

Per a rep at RUG (Sir Lloyd Webber's production company), any film-version of the musical SUNSET BLVD. is not in any stages of pre-production. Not now nor in any immediate future. This statement was said a few months ago.
Recently on the red carpet of an awards show, Glenn Close was asked about any possibility of a film-version of the musical SUNSET BLVD. Her response? "... don't hold your breath".
Enough with this rumor already.

Posted: 11/14/08 at 2:51pmI wonder who they'll get to direct the musical of "Wicked" - it's slated for 2010 - I'm assuming they're going to try to bring original cast members back. Idina could certainly do it - I hope Kristen does, but do you think she's getting too old? Esp. for film...

I love Wicked as a musical on Broadway, but the book is SO good it would be so much better as a book to film straight drama, leaving options for the sequal books to become films.
SB is not my rumor, Brody. It's IMDB's.

Posted: 11/14/08 at 3:04pmAren't they supposed to be college kids in Wicked? How would a 38 year old Menzel (at time of filming) and a 41 year old Chenowith pass as college kids? I doubt it. Idina barely passed as a twenty-something in Rent in '05.

Posted: 11/14/08 at 3:12pmJekyll & HYDE: The Musical is still going to happen too, most likely should be done by the latter portion of 2010, should everything go as planned. There in a slow pre-production process right now with the Hatchery, probably due to several reasons but one being that both Leslie + Frank are working on their next musical: Cyrano de Bergerac ~ The Musical with Raphael in Spain in 2009, and it's still in dispute what to do about the music! Keep the "old"-er versions of the songs or go for the new "rock-sounding" music on the Jekyll & HYDE: Resurrection, which was supposed to be in itself a "promotion" for the movie!

Posted: 11/14/08 at 3:18pmBoth Elphaba and Glinda age from early twenties to late 30's during the course of the story. I could see Idina passing for that...

Posted: 11/14/08 at 3:25pmI would not want Tim Burton to direct Into the Woods. Don't get me wrong, I liked his version of Sweeney Todd just fine. But I don't think he's right for Woods. We all know that Johnny Depp would be cast as the Baker with HBC as either the Baker's Wife or the Witch. And they're not right for those roles. If Pan's Labyrinth is anything to go, on I would like to see what Guillermo del Toro would do with a Woods film.

Then some one needs glasses. No offense. And also I read a quote from some one in the show (forgot where exactly) that said that 2 years pass between ActI and ActII not nearly 20.

Posted: 11/14/08 at 3:35pmYeah, I was gonna say, the leap between acts SHOULD be many years, but I think it's pretty clear in the show it's only a year or two.

Posted: 11/14/08 at 3:37pmIf the film version of WICKED ever gets made, it would be a miracle if Menzel and Chenoweth were signed to recreate their roles. Hollywood doesn't exactly have a great track record for remembering the original cast members when casting the movie versions of Broadway musicals (the recent RENT and THE PRODUCERS notwithstanding, and we all know how well they were received.) A film version of WICKED will more than likely be cast with the hottest stars of the moment.

Ah. I was thinking of the book - in the book Elphaba is in her early 40's when she's melted.
I agree - del Torro would be AMAZING with "Woods"

So is it true? Amy Adams will play Glinda the Good?
I still would Like to see Annaleigh Ashford....Her portrayal is in my top three, Next to Megan and Kristin

Posted: 11/14/08 at 4:18pmI don't believe it. Seriously? Or are you playing with us? I would've figured that they would try to get the hottest actresses capable of singing the parts. Though they may be going with the popularity of the show itself and not worry about if they cast very popular actors. Does that make any sense at all? Who can say...

Posted: 11/14/08 at 4:52pmAmanda Seyfried would not be a poor choice for Galinda (she's what, 23 years old? so the age is perfect), but who knows if they would risk it since she is now known for Mamma Mia.

I could see Amy as Glinda in a snap.
But wasn't Wicked just anounced (although it's been talked about for years? It's prolly just studio speculation at the moment.
And I'd love to see Burton take on ITW, just as long as he doesn't put Johnny and HBC as the leads for once, atleast not Helena as The Witch, I could see her as The Bakers Wife though. I actually thought it was perfect for him years ago and he'd lost the edge for something like Sweeney Todd (though he proved me quite wrong).
I always thought there's a good ITW cast in Burton's acting troupe (*)
Baker- Matthew Broderick
Wife- HBC (*)
Cincerella- Amy Adams
Witch- Sarah Jessica Parker (*)
Stepmother- Catherine O'Hara (*) or Miranda Richardson (*)
etc etc etc
edit:
ya know this just reminded me, what happened to moviemusicals.net? that was always the go to place for rumoured/planned/pre-production movie musical news.
