Oh good lord, no (to the movie) and NO (to Zellweger).

Hmm.
Am I one of the few that think Renee could most definitely pull this off?
No, you're not. I think she's perfect for it. She's a wonderful actress, and her vocal style fits the role beautifully. Updated On: 9/13/05 at 10:10 AM
I think they should film a re-make at Studio 54 and use the same gritty outline as the revival. For all we know, this is just another idea being hashed about, i.e.: Damn Yankees.
If they do it, I hope it's not a remake of the original movie, per se, but a revision.... if you will. I want my gritty, dirty Cabaret - they should base it on the revival.
I could certainly think of people I'd rather see, but (as much as it pains me to say this,) I think she could do it.
Before the recent revival closed, they tried to get Alan and Natasha to film it with Rob Marshall directing but scheduling difficulties scuppered it. Such a shame.
I remember hearing about that - and I was so happy.

If they do a movie, I hope they keep "Don't Tell Mama", "Perfectly Marvelous", and "Meeskite" in this one.
Dear God,
I know I shouldn't pray about things like this, but please do not let them remake this film.
Amen.
I think they should do not a re-make but another version of the film because what Fosse directed was nothing close to the stage version of Cabaret, even though this movie is my favorite movie. I am in favor of someone like Rob Marshall or Sam Mendes directing a new Cabaret but I definitely don't think Renee Zellweger would make a good Sally Bowles, she was breath-taking in Chicago but Sally is not something I don't see her as.
I heard from somewhere there's a remake of Hairspray coming up...
Renee was just alright in Chicago. I still can't see her as Sally.
Though Sally does not call for a great singer. I like Sally to have a deep and dark tone to her voice, you know a 'big' voice. A 'big' voice dosen't mean you can belt crazy, I just mean tone wise.
And Renee has a VERY thin voice, and I think she would sound horrible singing Sally.
Catherine would be so perfect for this. And she has the tone of voice, that I am speaking of.

Though I prefer the movie musical to the stage play and think it quite brilliant, turning CABARET into a 'drama with music' is just a dodge, as is any musical that uses musical numbers in a diegetic fashion, which defeats the very notion of musical or singing theatre. The true challenge of any musical, onstage or on film, lies in its successful transitions from speech to song, reality to fantasy. Treating songs as source material is an easy way out, no matter how stylishly presented. Nonetheless, to think that anyone could want to remake the musical only betrays the poverty of imagination and the paucity of ideas in Hollywood.

Renee Zellweger AGAIN?????
PLEASE no.
I must admit I wouldn't mind seeing Cabaret remade with an actress who played Sally Bowles in the Studio 54 revival..... *coughsusanegancough* ... but I'm kind of getting tired of seeing box office movie musical hits that are hits mainly because of the fact that they boast Hollywood stars.
Not Renee. Catherine maybe. Not Renee.
And also ditto what everyone's saying about making this more like the revival production than the film.
I have a great idea! Why don't they just cast Idedenshoshanasteph Menspinobeangastblock?

Okay, that joke stopped being funny a year ago.
Sally played by a sweaty puffy coke whore? Renee is perfect!
Oh no. I can't even start to list the billion reasons why this makes me want to cry.

I know it is not going to happen, but I would love to Idina take on Sally.

I like to think of a new film version of Cabaret like what happened with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Get what I mean?
I can't stand the movie of Cabaret. It's one of the worst stage-to-screen adaptations next to A Chorus Line, Hair and A Little Night Music except it won Academy awards. Yeah, Cher's won an Oscar too if that says anything.
And yes, PLEASE use the revival as a blueprint!
Cabaret IS one of the worst stage-to-screen adaptations. But that doesn't make it a bad movie. There are so many things happening under the surface of that movie it's unbelievable and fully deserved the awards it received.
Also, love Renee. Love Cabaret.
But a poor, poor combo.
And as much as I think Catherine would make an amazing Sally, I don't want to see the same people in movie musicals, ya know?
