What"s happening with Hugh Jackman's re-make of "Carousel"? Is that still in prolonged preproduction?

bat boy was in production, but it was cancelled last year.
I'm sure if Mamma Mia is a hit (and I think it will be) there will be a whole slew of the jukebox musicals made into movies.
I can't believe that Jersey Boys hasn't already been swept up.

Also: I heard they're re-doing Grease (Michelle Pfiefer is playing the principal)

ETA: Grease isn't on IMDB, but I know I read that somewhere. So take it for what it's worth.

According to wikipedia, there are talks of Spamalot. Because I know that's such a credible source. I'm rolling my eyes at this one. I love it, and would love for them to use Sara Ramirez as the Lady of the Lake again, but I know this one would be impossible to make into a movie, without ruining the second act. I would protest this one if they took Diva's Lament out because that is the best song. Well, it's right up there with The Song that Goes Like This.

Beauty & The Beast (live action) is a possibility. The producer has offered it to a writer. I'm not sure if it will actually be a musical though.

NINE is currently in pre-production. It was delayed due to the Writer's Strike.

No other movie musical is in development. SUNSET BLVD, AIDA, this so-called GREASE remake and THE COLOR PURPLE are just rumors -- they are not in any development stage at this time nor in the immediate future.

Footloose was in the talks for Zac Efron shortly after Hairspray came out. I believe it has been mentioned an article or two on here and Playbill.com. Zac had also mentioned it live on Regis and Kelly.

Broadway Shows I've Seen: Hairspray, Chicago, Little Shop of Horrors (2003), The Wedding Singer, Spamalot, Riverdance, Rent, Beauty and the Beast, Spring Awakening, Wicked, Legally Blonde, Phantom of the Opera, Sweet Charity (revival), Drowsy Chaperone, The Lion King, Dreamgirls(2010 Tour).

I really hate that I don't have the time to do MovieMusicals.net.

1) MAMMA MIA! comes out this summer.

2) NINE directed by Rob Marshall is in the casting/pre-production phase and will shoot this year.

3) PETER PAN for ABC-TV is in casting and will shoot later this year.

4) HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3 is shooting beginning this month, I believe.

5) A Sam Mendes-directed FOLLIES (Sondheim, not Rogers) is planned but still waiting on a green-light for casting.

That's all for the moment. Everything is still in planning stages. FOLLIES is crossing the border from Planning to Green-light but the writer's strike affected a lot of upcoming projects and it probably took a hit.

As long as they keep Bill Condon away from Follies, I'll be fine.

"they are not in any development stage at this time nor in the immediate future."

So when we read the press releases for these films that you say will never happen, should you call the networks and tell them you mentioned it on BWW that you said these movies will never be made and have them stop production? Using "immediate future" is like saying it will never happen.

Talks have being going around about a lot of movies, we shall just wait and see!

I also read that David Geffen saw the L.A. production of Jersey Boys and I remember reading they want to do a movie it, so that is possible there too.

The film rights to JERSEY BOYS have already been picked up. A director, whose name escapes me, has stated that he wants to do the project. This was a year ago.

Here's the IMDB page for Follies, if anyone's interested.

Jekyll & Hyde is also among the next. Frank Wildhorn claims that there are people working on it every day as "part of their job" or something. But it's still a few years out...but I feel like it will be sooner than later, unless they for some reason decide to cast 3 completely unknown people.

And apparently Sunset Boulevard has made some progress..limited down some Normas and just about that only.

IMDB.com has AIDA, and The Color Purple for 2010
Rumour has it that Beyoncé Knowles is in talks for Aida and Christina Aguilera for Amneris

I loved Beyonce in Dreamgirls but she would be a horrible mistake as Aida. I think Tamyra Gray, Anika Noni Rose, or LaChanze should be Aida in the movie.

I think Zac Efron would be great for Footloose, eventhough I hate, hate, hate HSM, he fits the character really well.

I;m not sure about Color Purple, Love the book, the movies alright, and I love the Musical, but not sure if it will translate well to film as a musical. Anyway, Fantasia did godd on bway I hear but when she played herself in her lifetime movie her acting was horrible.

I also heard rumors of Legally Blonde the musical and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels the musical being turned into movies.

AIDA is a rumor that went too far. It's not happening.

Efron in FOOTLOOSE won't happen.

COLOR PURPLE is being discussed amongst Oprah and her goonies but who knows if it will make it.

LEGALLY BLONDE? Nope - not happenin'. DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS? First I heard of such a rumor.
