"How about a majority of things that Sara Brightman sings on the OCR of Phantom that aren't full fledged songs?"
Her name is spelled SARAH!

Spork: True, but he is completely justified in doing so (I.E. the musical style that Phantom is built upon). However, in Musical Theater, even in shows like Phantom & Les Mis, its a good notion not to sing every single line in your songs or sung dialouge, especially DIALOUGE!! I like to see some choices being made and some variety in performance, instead of everything being sung the whole time, thus prompting everything predictable and justifying that all I am watching is someone singing their head off and not telling me a story. However, there are people out there who can sing every single line, and have justification in their acting behind why they are doing so. Mrs. Brightman however is not one of them. I find nothing behind her singing of every line (no dynamic, no urgency), but "I care only for how pretty my voice will sound".
And sorry Muscle: didn't really catch that her name is spelled with an "H" at the end. But being that i'm not too big a fan of her, I didn't really check that. I'll edit accordingly.

"Just makes it seem like all you are caring about is singing pretty (something that Sarah Brightman does not do by ANY means)."
Thank you!
I really do not care for her voice, and I've been called blasphemous for it. She sounds like she's trying to yawn while singing.
I once read an old PHANTOM review that likened Brightman's voice to Minnie Mouse, and now whenever I hear the OBCR that's whom I picture singing. XD
ETA: To be fair, a lot of female classical singers Do sound like Minnie Mouse, like they've just swallowed an apple or something. That's why I prefer male opera singers.

Fortunately for Sarah, 26 million people disagree with you. She is the best selling soprano of all times with over 26 million records sold.

... on Quaaludes!
(Actually, that was a dig at her acting; the critic seemed to like her voice.)

You can cite stats all you want, muscle, but that doesn't mean someone's going to change their mind.

I know. And I don't get it, because I think she has a very strange sounding voice, especially when she goes into the upper register. (Her chest voice sounds much nicer to me.)
Phantom of the Opera is one of my favorite shows, but I really do not like the OLCR, since I don't care much for Michael Crawford's voice either. (Again, blasphemy!) He reminds me too much of some sort of mix between Eric Idle and Tim Curry. Put that together with Sarah's yawning, and that just does not equal good listening to me.

I'm not picking a side here, but the idea that something's being popular being good is never a good argument.
Highest grossing domestic movie of 2009: Tranformers 2.

Im not trying to change anyone's points of view, just stating that I'm not the only one that likes her, because it seems I'm the only one on this board at times...

I agree a 100%

I'm not trying to change your mind or anything, we all have a different taste, I dislike a lot of singers mentioned on this board too, and I also don't get it. If we all liked the same it'd be boring.

I actually like The Woman in White but one of the problems I've always had is that the beginning of the show at least has too MUCH recitative.
Sarah is the premiere interpreter of ALW, for whatever that's worth and it is because of her POTO is what it is. I mean it was written for her. Doesn't mean you have to like it, or her, or ALW... but she is an inseparable part of the POTO legacy.
You can dislike her talent, but you cannot deny the effect she has had on the theatre.
And, frankly, she is truly unique in the recording industry and has maintained her passion for theatre for the intervening decades since her last performance in a show onstage.

Well said P!
Rent, no words are spoken at all.
Since when is there no dialogue in Rent?

I know the part was written for her, and I don't dislike her as a person or an actress, I just don't care for the quality of her head voice, that's all. I didn't say I hated her, I just think she has an odd singing voice.

I feel the same way about a lot of Sweeney Todd. "Blah Blah Blah Blah KISS ME" By the second one of those, I just want to bitch slap Johanna
Also, how many times do we have to hear the "SWEENEY, SWEENEY, SWEEEEEENEY" theme. I know I am watching a show called "Sweeney Todd"...shut up all ready.
Oh wait. I'm sorry, I'm mistaken. Only Andrew Lloyd Webber does stuff like this. My bad.

Im a big fan of Sarahs, BUT there have definately been better Christines (at least in london since) and there have been LOADS of better Phantoms than Michael Crawford. Cant stand the man, and his voice is not THAT amazing.
What I wouldnt give for a new Phantom recording (ideally with current London cast)

If there are any, there are very few. It's a rock opera. There is no spoken dialogue unless I have memory loss, which is very possible.

I love it that she has an odd singing voice. It makes her unique.
But even more I like the risks that she takes with her music, Sarah B is unafraid to do different thigns that most people won't approve of. Her music is sooo different from anyone else's. You never know what she is going to do next, it can be showtune-ish, gothic, rock, pop, classic, middle eastern, etc.

You have memory loss.
