Posted: 3/10/05 at 3:57pmIm trying to teach myself the dance to Mr. Mistoffelees by watching the Cats video over and over, but I keep getting frustrated because the tv makes it all look backwards when i try to do it. Does anyone know if there's anywhere online where I can find the steps for the dance for Mr. Mistoffelees written out? It would be MUCH easier that way. Please Help Me!

Posted: 3/10/05 at 3:59pmOh yeah! One other thing. I want to be either Rum Tum Tugger, Skimbleshanks or Mr. Mistoffelees for Halloween. Anyone know where I can get a costume or will I have to make my own?

Doesn't he just fuette endlessly as the rest of the cast drones on about how clever he is?
I say screw it and go with Skimbleshanks. He's way cooler.

Posted: 3/10/05 at 4:30pmwell, I would hesitate to use the video/DVD to teach yourself any dances from CATS. first off it is edited horribly. notice the Gumbie Cat number when her coat is removed and then suddenly she appears center stage or how the beetles tattoo forms a line instantly and then is in the rows again. and then Bombalurina and Munkustrap appear out of nowhere to finish the dance. this is all the result of dance and musical sections that were removed and horrid editing. this kind of thing is seen constantly through out the DVD as they removed about 30 minutes of material from the stage version to give the DVD a two hour running time. also when you see CATS on stage the Mistoffelees solo dance is about two minutes longer than what is shown on the DVD. shame on them for cutting that. shame. Posted: 3/10/05 at 4:55pmyes, well, that was a frame left over from their faulty attempt to make it look like a movie. next time they should try filming on a sound stage and maybe actually take advantage of the fact that they are using the film medium and can easily do camera tricks such as covering Cassandra under that red sheet center stage and then cutting to a frame with Old Deuteronomy or perhaps have Ken Page play Deuteronomy even when it is supposed to be Macavity dressed as him simply because on film they don't need to use doubles. but hey, lets just spend all our money on erasing those lights in the flys...

Hee hee...I can give you some advice on making your own CATS costume. I've made two so far: Bombalurina (which you can see in my fan photos) and Rumpleteazer (both her song outfit and the base unitard). Ask me anything!
And yeah, I wouldn't go by the video. They cut Misto's dance by about half.

Posted: 3/10/05 at 7:32pmI can get you the original OBC cut of "Mr. Mistofelees" with the whole dance section recorded prior to them cutting it in the editing room for the CD...

Posted: 3/10/05 at 10:58pmI noticed in the current tour, they cut the endless reprises of "Oh well I never...etc" both in the show and after the curtain call. I actually liked that! Shame on them.

Posted: 3/10/05 at 11:03pmDoes the current tour still do "Growltiger"? It was here in 2003 but I can't remember if that number was there.

Yes..but they cut Pekes and Pollicles
I saw it about 2 weeks ago...if you do a search, you'll find my full review!

Posted: 3/10/05 at 11:10pmyes GROWLTIGER is still in. THE BALLAD OF BILLY MCCOW is out in favor of the Italian aria IN UNA TEPIDA NOTTE. and they cut THE AWFUL BATTLE OF THE PEKES AND THE POLLICLES TOGETHER WITH THE MARCHING SONG OF THE POLLICLE DOGS (yes I typed the entire title out... yay for me) which given the fact that it's my favorite song I was POed but it was still a worthy production otherwise... Good review, Princeton!
Truth be told, "Pekes and Pollicles" is a number I can do without. And I prefer the Italian aria. I have the OLC and I never got into "Billy McCaw." Well, that and Stephen Mo Hanan sings the hell out of the aria...

I like the aria better too. but I have to get upset anytime anyone says they can do without PEKES. It just pisses me off. even if you don't like the song the show is incomplete without it and actually seeing it without it is so bizarre because there is so obviously something missing at that point... plus it's Munkustrap's big number... he's got nothing in act two he should get his last little moment to shine.

Posted: 3/10/05 at 11:52pmThe orchestra for the current tour is sweetened I'm sure..but I'll say, i've never heard the music sound better. During the climax of the overture, I thought "D*MN! That's how this is supposed to sound!" I felt the same way during the Jellicle Ball, The Journey to the Heaviside Layer and Oh my friggin God, the build up to Grizzabella's last verse in Memory...I'll say it again...OH MY GOD...it's incredible. I wish I could get a instrumental recording of this tour.

Posted: 3/11/05 at 1:02amI'd like to have a recording that was actually a complete proper documentation of the show...
