I think we'll see the Buena Vista billingfor FOX stage properties. Fox was the studio behind theMrs. DmovieandFoxStage Productions was previously partnered with McCollum on this, butFox Stage chair Bob Cohen got the boot after the Disney merger. It makes sense that the company's theatrical efforts are now under Schumacher's umbrella (albeit with a different name).

Not to be nit-picky, butStarcatcherwas billed as Disney Theatrical Productions, but Dis wasn't the lead producer so it wasn't prominent. When AIDA opened, the producer was listed as "Hyperion Theatricals," in a plan to launch a new theatre division within Disney, but they later scratched that and re-branded as Disney Theatrical Prods."

I' have a feeling that Disney will be using the Buena Vista name a lot for FOX productions, as there are plenty that could make a good musical (Disney are already turning the FOX-Produced The Princess Bride into a musical, but that seems to be going into the Disney section because of its fairytale story and themes) The Hyperion Theatricals project seems like a failed attempt to create a theatrical equivalent to Touchstone Pictures (Disney's "Adult" films division until the early 2010s) and it would be interesting to learn more about it...

I like Brian D'Arcy James, but this roles seems like it would fit Christopher Fitzgerald like a glove

i didnt say that that part was creepy (which btw aren’t you also describing tootsie with that sentence?). I said the concept of him not being allowed to see his children so he stalks them and pretends to be a woman to get closer to them. I’m really shocked that people are saying this is out of love which part of it is, but it’s also creepy and yes it is my opinion and no it is not ridiculous. Stop that.

Well when you mention that part in your response about how “Creepy” the show is it’s going to be taken as that is creepy, so maybe don’t include that next time. I guess it’s creepy now for a father to do whatever he can to see his kids he loves. Just so creepy! Happy 2019 everyone!!!!

We see Doubtfire Dec 14. I adore Rob McClure, and have to say I'm looking forward to this more than Tootsie. Tootsie didn't work for me on stage, but I expect Doubtfire will given the theme of wanting/needing to be part of your kids' lives. It's a more accessible theme to the general public than a struggling actor looking for work.

As for McClure being in Williams' shadow, sure there will be comparison, but in a similar way, JMI and others have made Aladdin's Genie their own. I think the theater going crowd is open to seeing other interpretations of an iconic role.

As an aside, as I think about how closely the musical will follow the film, there is an interesting YouTube video with some outtakes that had Field and Williams acting very bitter and angry toward each other. If I recall, those scenes were dropped because test audiences reacted so negatively in the context of the comedy and love elsewhere in the film. I'm sure those scenes won't be in the musical.
