Interesting. It wasn't a hit in London - and I find it difficult to believe it would do better on this "side of the pond." Especially, because much of it is very English. I found it wonderfully resonant seeing a show specifically set in a West End theatre while sitting in a West End theatre (with an older, primarily English, audience who, if not having experienced the blitz, certainly heard stories from their parents and relatives).
It was a fun little show - and I was glad to see it in London because of its setting, but here? Perhaps not.

well keep in mind the musical is based on an Academy-Award-nominated film. People here know the story.

Some people here know the story. It's not like it was a mainstream hit or anything. It was nominated for Dench and for costumes. Costume nominations don't mean anything when it comes to public awareness of a film and an acting nomination doesn't add much unless the film was a hit to begin with. Or possibly a notable or controversial win for an actor generates an increase of interest in the film. I mean, Jessica Lange won Best Actress, but it doesn't mean people know the story to Blue Sky off the top of their heads. Or even remember the film ever happened.
That being said, I listened to the cast recording for Mrs. Henderson Presents and was pleasantly surprised. I really like the score and would love to get the opportunity to see the show.

Yeah - In the states, I don't think many people are that familiar with the story, although some might likely ask "wasn't that a movie a few years ago?"
I definitely think it's worthwhile. Especially if Tracie Bennett is involved - she has amazing energy onstage. If I was in Toronto and the choice was to see the show or simply not - I'd see it. If it was running on Broadway and had to compete with 30 other shows for my limited time, it probably wouldn't make my list.
...and there's the nudity. While it's totally appropriate, wonderfully well-done and not really sexy, the first disrobing DOES feel a bit naughty!
