It looks like it's true...
I can not even handle my excitement over the Broadway return of Megan Mullally! I love Kristin, but this is just fabulous!

Posted: 3/9/07 at 9:32amI'm really excited to see her on Broadway. She's so wonderful. And I think Shuler Hensley is insanely talented.

I think it's very amusing that taking this show would be a 99% guaranteed job for at least a year, but they're all mulling television offers.
That said, Andrea Martin is perfect casting for Frau Blucher.

Thrilled about Mullally, not so much about Foster.
Yankee, that's not uncommon. Television pays more and gives more exposure than Broadway. And didn't we come up with the Andrea Martin idea on this board?

Posted: 3/9/07 at 9:41amYeah, but TV is significantly more finnicky. Here today, gone tomorrow when the ratings dip. Theater is generally the same, but it's a Mel Brooks show.

Yes, we did, and thank you, Rath.
Love the new av, btw.

Posted: 3/9/07 at 9:44amI think for the possibility of the kind of exposure TV can give, a lot of actors think it's worth the risk. You also have to remember that while actually being on a show that succeeds is what gives exposure to audiences, auditioning, getting cast, etc. regardless of ratings once you do is what gets your name out within the industry.

It's great that Sutton keeps getting new shows, but I’m starting to wonder if she’ll ever be a replacement in anything again. It’s just so weird that she’s in the original cast for four shows in a row.

HumATune, why in the world would she want to replace at this point in her career?
And what's weird about originating roles?

Posted: 3/9/07 at 9:53amI saw McCormack in Music Man and he was fine. Assuming that the score will be typical Mel Brooks, and McCormack isn't expected to pull off an eleven o'clock number like Betrayed, he should be OK in this role.

Because Sutton never replacing again just kills so many fantasy casting threads.
Sutton as Mary P
Sutton as Elphaba
Sutton as Galinda
Sutton as Fantine
Sutton as Cassie
Sutton as Bobby in Company
etc...

I didn’t say it was bad, but you must admit it’s highly unusual.
It’s just weird that she’s had the opportunity to originate four roles IN A ROW. It’s just not something that happens a lot, even for the most respected/talented Broadway actors.

Good luck getting tickets to this one...
And I think Eric would be great. He was wonderful in "The Music Man."

As much as it would be fun to take credit for Martin being offered the role, she was already in the minds of the creative staff for a while.
It will be interesting to see how a score tailored expressly for a coloratura will be changed to accomodate Mullaly's belt.
Oh...and TV offers so many more benefits than theatre ever could. I don't blame a-one of them for 'taking the risk' with television.

If Foster can keep landing original roles in big musicals, why would she ever want choose to be a replacement? The time may come, but she's doing so incredibly well now, it's a wonderful thing to see!
As far as TV...as much as I would think making it on a Broadway stage is the end all for some, I'm sure once you've "made it", it's similar to other jobs where you just feel that it's time to move around and experience other things. I think that there's the feeling of being able to "fall back" on Broadway if TV fails for them, which is kind of unfortunate but appears to be true.

Landing a "Pilot" is one episode and not a regular series.
Some get picked up, most don't.

I agree. I just find it amazing that she keeps landing original roles. Of course her talent comes into it (big time), but so does an amazing string of luck.
Let me clarify: I find it amazinng luck that she's landed four original roles in a row.
