This has been answered about other theaters, but just want to make sure its the same for the Music Box and/or nothing has changed since the prior answers. I'll be seeing the 10/4 matinee of DEH. I'm coming from two hours away via train, so I'm bringing something to read on the train, plus I'd like a place to put any purchases I make before the show. I'll be bringing a bookbag-size backpack (literally the one I used in college longer ago than I will admit). I'm assuming no problem bringing that into the theatre? (I know there's a Shubert Org. usher on here who'll probably knows the "official" rules).

You'll have to open it for inspection, but you will have no problems.

Just don't bring food. I was in line behind some foreign teens to get into a show this weekend who had several full bags of take-out food. Security rightfully made them leave it all behind.

Last time I was at the MB was for Pippin at the end of a theater binge Fri-Sun weekend. I had to dash back to Newark for a flight after the matinee. I got in with my backpack (I travel light) and no one asked to check it, just walked in after scanning my ticket. I also had a small bag of bulk candy from the M&M store inside it for the journey home. True, this was four years ago...things may have changed since then. Also, the backpack fit easily under my seat in Row C and didn't cause anyone to trip.

Also, clear bottles with water are allowed in the theater too! In case you are worried about that.

Thanks everyone. That's what I figured. It'll just have reading material, my charger, and maybe (non-food) purchase or two.

Just so you know, not all food is excluded. I always have a couple protein bars or other small snacks (as well as water, as someone else suggested) for the train ride home. I was just at the Music Box last week and had no problem with those items. Obviously a full bag of take-out food is a bit much, as mentioned previously, but small foods in wrappers/containers are probably fine. Enjoy the show!

I've NEVER been asked to get rid of food. Open drinks (not water), yes - but never food.
And yes, in the last 4 years a lot has changed....I almost always have a backbpack with me while in NY, and can't remembe a theater in the past year that has perfunctorily looked.

I've seen theater security confiscate take out containers, restaurant doggy bags, cupcakes (like a box from Magnolia), and even a live lobster. It depends on how thoroughly they check, and some guys are more thorough than others. Just to be safe, don't bring in food. If you have to bring SOMETHING with you, like if you have a medical condition or something, bring something small and wrapped, like a granola bar. Enjoy the show!

I'm sorry if it sounded like I didn't believe it happens - just that I've never been affected. I picked up some kettle corn at one of the street fairs over the summer, no one said a word. I had 3 bags in my pack - so no way they didn't see it. And most of the time Ive walked in carrying a bottle of coke or other beverage.

Thanks for the info, everyone. As I figured and everyone predicted, no problems. This was the first time I've had my bag looked into and swept with one of those "wands,' but this was only a few days after the Las Vegas thing, so I guess they were being more careful. (Sad when the world's come to a point you'd even have to think about that kind of thing, but better safe than sorry).
A bit of humor (or maybe bad theatre behavior). Right across the aisle from me was a lady with a good sized shopping bag and what I guess was a large tote but frankly looked like a laundry bag stuffed with several weeks worth of clothes- at least it as that size. She was on the aisle and initially had the stuff next to her (i.e., partially in the aisle). Ushers asked her to move it but they were still sticking into the aisle. Made me realize a small backpack (which easily fit under my seat) was the least of the usher's concerns!

Hold up! Did you say "live lobster" Yero? Someone actually brought in a live lobster? That must have been an amazing sight to see.

If you buy a seat for the lobster will they let him/her in?
