Evita at the Winter Garden? That's one of the worst places (if they are doing the outdoor balcony scene) from a traffic control standpoint. Admittedly, the image of her standing above the huge billboard with "Evita" written on it is perfect but that's going to be mess traffic-wise.

Trump calls it the Trump Kennedy Center Dec 31 2025, 01:25:31 PM
I can't stand the man, but will admit he is good at "four dimensional chess" to get what he wants. I wonder if we WANTS the Kennedy Center to fail. Yes, it will fail with his name on it, but he can use the "leftists/woke mob/democrats/anyone who doesn't worship me ruined it" talking points. He can then have the building demolished/gut renovated and open the Trump Center for American Exceptionalism/Putting America First/whatever else the MAGA folks

The Death of the Understudy Slip Dec 17 2025, 05:51:09 PM
At the very least, its an improvement over what seems to have become the norm lately, where a "cast at this performance" list was inserted with all roles/performers listed, requiring an audience member to compare it to the cast list in the bound Playbill to figure out who's in/out.

What's next for the St. James ? Dec 4 2025, 01:07:39 PM
Rather than keeping the St James or Majestic dark all summer, might ATC/the Shuberts make it feasible for smaller shows to economically work for a limited run? The other possbility is a show that's been "circling" but initially was planning to come in next season due to percieved competition/theatre availability decide to open in the later part of Spring 2026? Unless I'm missing something, the only other new musicals planned for this season are Lost Boys and Schm

Kennedy Center ticket sales have dramatically plummeted since Trump takeover Oct 31 2025, 12:55:55 PM
I wonder if this was the whole idea- demand for Kennedy Center tickets go down, it becomes unprofitable, which gives him a reason to stop government funding.

Breaking character… acceptable? Sep 11 2025, 12:44:08 PM
I do think its a different situation when there is some mechanical problem with the set, or something else thats already taken the audience out of the moment. A humerous ad lib could actually make things less awkward, and it may not be possible to make a comment in character..

Broadway Theater Owners Express Interest in Purchasing Stephen Colbert Show's Theater Sep 2 2025, 12:59:38 PM
I believe the interior's landmarked, so that would limit what Real Estate Devlopers can do, especially the interior.

Could the Ed Sullivan Theatre return to Broadway? Jul 29 2025, 01:35:35 PM
Much of the "restored" stained glass would have to be replaced sincie it has Colbert's face and the CBS logo. Easily enough done, but an expense.
Could a new owner buy the building, operate the theatre, and lease the office space? I think Roundabout did something like that for the Sondheim.
If it did become a Broadway Theatre again, keep the Ed Sullivan name. He was before my time but I do know he regularly brought broadway performers to his show.

CABARET sets closing with Porter and Wallace to star Jun 18 2025, 01:18:16 PM
The small balconies on the August Wilson would work quite well fpr Evita if they try to squeeze in at end of the season. It will take some time to put everything back how it was originally (if Cats isnt comng) so it won't be available for a while.
One other thing for Evita- wherever it plays, the actress need to be able to get onto it during intermission without having to tangle with crowds.bathroom lines, etc.

Can someone clarify as to what the specific type of humor is? (ie, Gentleman's Guide, 39 Steps, Book of Mormon, Monty Pythonesque British Humor?)

Viciously Funny Reviews Feb 11 2025, 09:58:49 AM
Not a play or musical, but when Andy Worhol's film "Bike Bos" started showing at the Hudson Theatre, the NYT's Howard Thompson noted "[Bike Boy] opened yesterday at the Hudson Theater. It belongs in the Hudson River."
Ouch.

Adam Lambert Cabaret 1/22 Matinee Audience Behavior Jan 24 2025, 12:47:27 PM
Maybe I'm misinterpting, but I always saw the line at the end of "If You Could See Her" as noting things were so twisted in Germany at that point if a person were dating a Jewish Gorilla, people would be more scandalized by the fact she's Jewish than the fact the person is dating a Gorilla.

Congestion pricing Jan 6 2025, 06:21:42 PM
I come to Broadway 2-3X a year from Delaware. Just under two hours by train. I wouldn't want to deal with driving the NJ Turnpike, much less Manhattan. I'm sure other people use Amtrak (or one of the local transit systems if the live close enough). I personally take the subway over to the Theatre District and feel safe doing so, though I keep my distance from the platform until the subway comes in. FWIW I am a 57 year old male, about 6' 180 lbs.

With the renovations and everything done to the Majestic (which unless I've missed it, haven't really heard anyone comment on them...) I'm really surprised to see this.
I (probably like most here) had only been in the Majestic previously for Phantom, so its difficult to compare. The theatre definitely looks gorgeous. The men's room, at least was spacious and appeared new (I saw Phantom soon after the post-C

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 10/13/24 Oct 16 2024, 01:01:27 PM
I haven't seen this production but out of curiosity:
How does the scope/likely cost of the renovations for Broadway and London compare? From the seating charts it look like the Broadway renovation was more signifigant (I'm aware the West End and Broadway economic models are different). I've never been to the West End at all and haven't been in the August Wilson since it was the pre-renovation Virginia (the "high school auditorium&quo

Webbers next musical Oct 3 2024, 06:21:50 PM
TheatreMonkey said: "I would hope Lord Lloyd Webber would know better than to try and musicalize a pretty perfect play (with music!) inAmadeus (which is decidedly not set in 1900).But perhaps he's trying to go back to his romantic side, and writing a musical adaptation ofLetters from an Unknown Woman, which also fits both criteria."
From reading the Wiki synopsis of "Letter from an Unknown Woman", it fits the clues AND the plot see

Audra McDonald-led GYPSY for 2024-2025 Season! Sep 23 2024, 12:47:47 PM
A question regarding speculation about casting the "older" June. It's been a while since I saw the show, but isn't she only in the show for the second half or so of Act I? Does she return at any point after she runs off with Tulsa? (I'll assume spoiler warnings aren't needed on a 60+ year old show). Assuming my memory is correct, there doesn't seem much point in spending money to get a "name" to play the role, and mor
