Posted: 1/1/08 at 2:07amMr. Herman first came out with the news he was HIV possitive, I believe, at the time of his memoir (1996?). It's no big news, but still sad, though great to see he's still alive and kicking and doing well.

Posted: 1/1/08 at 6:04amYes, this has been common knowledge for a while. He discusses it at length in his autobiography. I believe that's the reason he's reluctant to take on doing a new show from scratch, although he appears to be keeping very active.

Posted: 1/1/08 at 7:52amI loved all the footage, but I wish the bio hadn't been edited to death, things were always happening two at a time between the bideo and the voice-over, all of his shows were sort of glanced over really quickly in the span of time. By the time spent with his childhood I'd thought it would be more thorough, but it all went by so fast.

I actually like Michael Feinstein.. I have several of his CD with just piano accompaniment singing Broadway standards...
One of my favorite Michael Fienstein CD is THE JERRY HERMAN SONGBOOK:
Jerry Herman is playing the piano and sometimes he is singing with him. I can listen for this for hours...I love this CD so much ! You know- sipping cofffe in a quiet afternoon and listening to Jerry Herman's song book by Michael F.. what a perfect afternoon!
Songs :
1. Just Go to the Movies
2. As Simple As That
3. Hello Dolly Medley ( Put on Your Sunday Clothes, It Takes a Moment, Before the Parade Passes by)
4. Penny in my Pocket
5. Kiss Her Now
8. With You on my Arm
9. Mariane
10. Mame
11. Dancing
12. Let's Not Waste A Moment
13. Loving You
14. Look Over There
15. To Be Alone with You
16. Mame Medley (It's Today, If She Walked into my Life, We Need a Little Christmas, It's Today/ Reprise )
17. I Won't Send Roses
18. Hello, Dolly!
19. You I Like
I definitely recommend this CD.. its a rare treasure !

Posted: 1/1/08 at 10:37amMichael Feinstein is the epitome of cheese. A lounge pianist who hooked up with Liza and took that friendship from there to get a career. His smile is so phony.

Posted: 1/1/08 at 11:17amIt was only uncomfortable because Feinstein's face doesn't appear to move anymore, and he was screaming to hit the high notes in a song that calls for some intimacy.

Posted: 1/1/08 at 6:24pmI just got around to watching it, twas a beautifully done piece. I had no idea I knew only part of his story. While watching it, I was wondering out loud 'where has he been anyway'? To find out the reason was sad, but it's so great to see that his energy and his love for the art is still so unbounding.

I loved this documentary.
Watching George Hearn do "I Am What I Am" showed how truly exciting his performance was and how bland and boring Gary Beach was in the revival. If someone wants to know why the revival failed, one doesn't have to go past the awful choices Gary Beach made in his interpretation.
