With everything that's been happening with Book of Mormon, its made me think a lot about how shows like South Park, Family Guy and before them the Simpsons have always played around with Musical Theater.
Here are my fave musical theater simpsons moments:

Any others people are fond of that I missed?

any list which doesn't contain the episode with "streetcar named desire: the musical" cannot be taken seriously.
you can always depend on the kindness of strangers...
to pluck up your spirits, and shield you from dangers!

haha so true! Jon Lovitz is hysterical in that as well.
I was going more for direct parodies of musicals here, perhaps I should do another post with the best musical moments in general!

I vote you don't make another thread. It will just clutter up the board ad there aren't that many direct parodies - but here's "One" from A Chorus Line:

"Streetcar!" was so brilliant that I marvel no one has attempted to stage it.

I loved the Mary Poppins episode, the Evita episode, and the My Fair Lady episode.
JoeKv99 probably because the flying sequence would be to expansive to stage haha.

Stella! Stella! Can't you hear me yell-ah? You're putting me through hell-ah! Stella! STELLAAAAAA!
Anyway...
I loved when Bart said "You're as Lame-miserab" in "All Singing, All Dancing" because it was the first pop culture reference I'd ever heard to Les Mis.
Or when Bart and Milhouse go crazy "Broadway style."

Homer: Something very close, exactly along those lines. A Clint Eastwood, Lee Marvin shoot-em-up western!
Marge & Lisa: Hmmmm...
Bart: So prepare yourself for the bloody mayhem and unholy carnage of Joshua Logan's "Paint Your Wagon"!
Homer: With blood, I bet!
One of my favorites was when they went to see the Itchy and Scratchy musical, and one of the marquees read "Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick in $$$$$$$$$$$$$$"

as is apparent from the replies, joekv99 has true taste.
did i ask too much from fourth graders?
the review, "play enjoyed by all," speaks for itself.

I think my favorite is the monorail Harold HIll one...thanks for posting this!
The podium sign that looks like the Evita window card is my favorite.

I'm pretty sure The President Wore Pearls was such a direct ripoff of Evita that it ended with a disclaimer that the episodes' writers, "based on the advice of their lawyers, swear they have never heard of a musical based on the life of Eva Perón".
PiraguaGuy2,
The Evita episode was a spoof, not a ripoff. There's a difference. The disclaimer was clearly a joke.
In any event I will second "Kickin' it: A Musical Journey Through The Betty Ford Clinic." In fact, "The City of New York Vs Homer Simpson" is one of my all time favorite episodes. Sad that it will never be aired again during reruns.

I know that, Winston. But thanks for playing.

The Planet of the Apes one cracks me up... i am always singing "dr. zaius, dr. dr. zaius... oooh dr. zaius.."... haha
and some of my favorite lyrics from songs they've written.. when they did the school play with Lisa and Ralph Wiggum and they had a song about the presidents... "we are the mediocre presidents, you won't find us on dollars or on cents"... great lyrics...
as well as my favorite lyric from a song they wrote when they went to Nashville (i think)... it goes something like... we're the celebrities you thought were dead, here's Bonnie Franklin and Adrian Zmed! haha... i laughed because it was just hilarious and i honestly thought Bonnie Franklin was dead!!! haha
