Has their ever been musical movies based on a revival of a show? I would love it if they remade the cabaret movie to have it based off the 1993/1998/2014 revival.
Just realized the Chicago movie is one of those movies. Anymore?

A Cabaret movie based on the newer revivals would be great (with Alan Cumming as the emcee, of course). I personally prefer these revivals to the original production.

I'm not sure how you could say that the film version of Chicago is based on the current revival, other than the timing (and a film version of Chicago had been in development off and on pretty much since the original production opened on Broadway). Stylistically the film and the current revival are pretty much as opposite as you can get (period piece with attention to detail and lavish production design vs. a stripped-down, highly theatrical presentation),
Looking forward to remakes of movie musicals screwed up the first time.
I can't think of any off-hand but there are a bunch that could sure use a remake.
I agree with AEA AGMA SM I don't see how the Chicago movie is based on the revival. The productions are polar opposites. The revival may have reignited interest in a movie, leading to the Chicago movie, but I definitely don't see many stylistic similarities between the two. If anything, the movie is pretty similar to the original production in terms of scale, costume and overall glitzy/glamorous production.
Does the upcoming Pippin count? I know it was originally reported that the movie would take after the revival more than the original version.
I'm still waitin' anxiously for that that Pippin movie to materialize. I need it like I need air.

YES!! I feel the same way, I'm still praying for Andrea Martin as Berthe. I would even be happy with just a filmed version of the revival. It was just so well done!
I would love to see a cabaret movie starring Alan cumming and Emma stone reprising their roles. I could see Hellen Mirren as fraulein Schneider, John krasinski as Clifford and joel grey as herr Schultz. Also since sam mendes and Rob Marshall do movies now they can adapt it for the screen together.
I would LOVE to see Emma Stone as Sally in a movie of the revival. She was fantastic when I saw her.
Since we're on the subject, I would also LOVE a movie version of the recent Side Show revival. I could do without the Houdini subplot and maybe a little added focus on Buddy's sexuality, but overall the production would make a fantastic movie.
The movie version of Cabaret was tailored for the talents of Liza Minnelli. The character of Sally Bowles became the emphasis of the film while I believe the EmCee has a far bigger role in the stage production. Both great. Two different animals.
