Musicals that Narrate through Dance?#1

Does anyone have some examples of musicals, that have "ballet sequences" (meaning that they use dance to narrate the story.

(doesn't neccessary have to be in ballet style)

I really appreciate any examples!

When someone blunders, we say that he makes a misstep. Is it then not clear that all the ills of mankind, all the tragic misfortunes that fill our history books, all the political blunders, all the failures of the great leaders have arisen merely from a lack of skill in dancing. - Moliere

Oklahoma.

Billy Joel's Movin' Out IS a ballet but billed as a musical.

Um....thinking....thinking....

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Do you guys think the NuttyCracker in Millie qualifies?

No...because they are "at a club dancing". The story itself involves them dancing at a club.

ok....thank you!

My logic was that "the plot moves foward," they are at the club, then they get caught and arrested, and then "poof" next scene in jail.

But, yours makes more sense :)

Its more like things happen WHILE they are dancing, not that the dancing is telling us somehting separate.

I think Frug is in the same category as Nutty Cracker

ahem, WEST SIDE STORY

You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

"If artists were machines, then I'm just a different kind of machine...I'd probably be a toaster. Actually, I'd be a toaster oven because they're more versatile. And I like making grilled cheese" -Regina Spektor

"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl

"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott

what about Once on This Island. Don't they do a lot of dancing in that to move the story?

This happens in some interludes of 9 to 5 (where the guy gets hired), but it doesn't really count because they clarify with words after.
