The Phantom of the Opera could have been great..maybe they'll try again in 30 years...they needed to take some tips from Evita (the best movie-musical of our generation IMO)
maybe Chess if they found a really good director and fixed and/or changed the plot slightly... I could even see this as a movie without music if it was done correctly.
Jersey Boys- I think it would be a fantastic movie. I think that whenever JB goes more into the planning stage of being a movie, that they should first offer it to Des McAnuff, and if he doesn't want to do then it should be either directed by Spielberg or Scorese. They should also cast JLY, Daniel, Bobby, and Christian for The Four Seasons and also cast Michael Longoria as Pesci and have cameos from the real Frankie, Bob, Tommy, Bob Crewe, and Pesci.
Spring Awakening- I think it could work as a movie, in the style that jagfkb said kinda like the Chicago movie.
The Drowsy Chaperone- That would be very interesting to see as a movie.
i was thinking, would it be interesting if, for the act one portion of the film the characters (elphaba and glinda) were played by young, up and coming actresses, but their voices were dubbed by idina and kristin (songs only), and in the act two portion of the film (since the characters are supposed to be some years older) idina and kristin played them on screen. the only reason i say have idina and kristin dub their voices is only because most peoples voices dont change that much from college to adulthood. call me crazy lol. i think it could work/be interesting/make everyone happy lol.
Wicked would make a terrible movie. Think about Defying Gravity. It would be so anti-climactic. There would be nothing special about it because you can do anything on film. That scene works because it is on stage and you are seeing it right before your eyes. On film with cg = boring.
"I want to see someone finally attempt Les Miz. I'm not a huge fan, but it's about time!"
Are you kidding? There was a Lez Miz movie made, starring Uma Thurman.

They won't offer it to Des but Spielberg is interested in doing it. It would be interesting because that would be the second movie that Spielberg will have directed that was originally directed on stage by Des, the first will be The Farnsworth Invention.
Oh c'mon, you're thinking like a Stroman if you're saying 'Wicked' (or any other show, for that matter) won't work on screen. You need to think like a Condon! :P

Amoung the list I could see:
spring Awakening (With the same kindda theme as chicago the movie)
Grey Gardens (it'd be interesting)
Wicked (No Idena Menzel (Kristen Chenoweth is ok ))
What're your ideas?
Nothing says "musicals that would make nice movie musicals" it says just "movies", I read very well, thanks.

Muscle, I think it's pretty understood that when you turn a musical into a movie, it stays a musical.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
