I'm looking for a musical that has a part in it for an extremely talented 10 year old girl. Other children in the cast are okay, too. (And yes I have heard of Annie, but I'm looking for a variety of ideas).
I've thought of Annie, The Secret Garden, Ruthless, and The Music Man (not huge but there is one)

A Little Night Music

Sunday in the Park With George
Really Rosie by Maurice Sendak and Carole King is a delightful musical. I had the pleasure of directing the area premiere in Minneapolis in 1990, and I'm very proud of it. It has an entire cast of children. I did it with about 20 kids. Samuel French handles it and you can do it with a piano score.
You might also look at Music Theatre International's Jr. Musical series. I have a friend who does those shows regularly in a middle school.

I was thinking an adult musical but with children in the cast, so not Jr. We are doing the Real Story of Little Red Riding Hood as a children's show right now (I am musical director) and this girl is extremely talented, and we a re a small community theatre, so when we get good people, I like to make sure I choose a musical for the next year that they could at least be in (I direct the musical). not precasting, but just being smart. oooo, Grey Gardens would be neat! Will Mary Poppins ever be available? Probably not for a long time.
Don't forget The Wizard of Oz and Jane Eyre.
I played Dinah in High Society when I was ten, and it is still one of my favorite experiences to date.
Gypsy
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (She might be a little on the young side, but Francie is a lovely role)
A Little Night Music (Fredricka is supposed to be about 13, but she could be a precocious ten)
The Goodbye Girl (GREAT role for a spunky girl, plus two other young girl roles)
Are the rights available for the musical version of Mildred Peirce? There is a young girl in that.
Various versions of A Chirtmas Carol have children in them. Ditto Babes and Toyland.
George M! can be done with children. The little girl who brings the message to Fay Templeton has a cute, belty solo.
Annie Get Your Gun

maybe she'd make a good little red in into the woods? that's if the rest of the cast could cope with it!
This is a good resource for this type of search:

There are also Jr. versions of most of the popular shows if you are doing an all kid show.

Thanks ErinDillyFan!
Oh, Jane Eyre sounds like a logical choice!
Peter Pan
I second Ruthless and The Secret Garden
The ones that immediately came into my head were The Secret Garden, (you do need OTHER strong children, though, namely one to play Dickon and Colin and Martha if you want her to be a child, which is what she actually is in the original book!)
and Peter Pan.
Other possibilities: I think the Goodbye Girl has a strong role for a little girl, there's Annie, Chitty-Chitty if the rights are out yet would be good
On Jane Eyre-we only see her as a child briefly. She's an adult most of the show.

In Secret Garden Dickon and Martha are always played by adults, but they ideally should be around 16 to 18.

I agree with everyone who said The Secret Garden. Great show to showcase a child. :)
Can she look a little younger than 10?
