These ten shows that I've enjoyed were critically unappreciated during their initial Broadway runs. I listen to the cd's of many of these shows quite regularly. (It's a shame that the last one was never recorded)
STARLIGHT EXPRESS, BALLROOM, STEEL PIER,
THE ADAMS FAMILY, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, GRIND
THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL, THE GOODBYE GIRL
DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, COPPERFIELD

I love the score of Wonderland. I own both the OBC and the concept album (with Nikki Snelson and "Nick of Time". I had the opportunity to see it in its 2nd of 3 developmental productions (so the plot was pretty different by the time it was on Broadway). I don't know why I was as obsessed with it in high school as I was though...

Esther2, I almost forgot about that one! Saw it with the Smothers Bros on a college trip. Fun show!
Lestat
Dance Of The Vampires - for shlock value alone
Bajour
Golden Rainbow
What Makes Sammy Run
Her First Roman
Jekyll and Hyde is always the first that pops into my head.
Does Wicked fall into this category? Like for many, it was my first Broadway show that I remember seeing and it's what got me into musical theatre. My "gateway show," if you will.
Also, Sally Durant Plummer, why do you think First Daughter Suite will make that list? It looks like it'll be really cool, especially with the ladies involved.

It's a LaChiusa show, and those are all extremely divisive between people who love them and people who hate them.
