Enjoy, and, of course, post your thoughts on the production.

Hi Patty:
I'm not sure how to answer your question. I don't have children but I have nieces and nephews. I guess it all depends on her.
*****possible minor spoiler******
There are a few very intensely emotional scenes and one scene of an almost rape. They tussle on the floor for a bit and then she pushes him away. That's about the extent of the violence I think (at least as far as I can remember). The other emotional scenes have to do with past remembrances and his drinking. The first act is very funny; most of the seriousness and drama comes in the second act.

Also, it's a very long play and there is a lot of dialog. I don't know if she'll find that tedious or not. Personally, I was riveted to the stage the entire time but then again, I'm not 15. :)
Personally, I'd probably take my niece (she's 13) if she were a couple of years older.
Patty, in a word: NO! This would be a terrible first play for ANYONE, let alone a 15 year old. The quality is not very good, and much of the play is very tedious and boring. I highly doubt that she would enjoy this, especially if she is used to seeing musicals. For her first play, take her to see something like Inherit the Wind.

Ah well. I liked it. Guess that's what makes the world go 'round, huh? :)

I Liked it too ---- very much!
A few quick thoughts (and possible spoilers, if you are not familiar with the play):
I don't know what play Kevin Spacey is acting in, but it certainly isn't A MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN. His overwrought, histrionic gestures fall somewhere between drawing room farce and the Marx Brothers, and it throws off the entire focus of the play. Lines that are TRAGIC are getting laughs. That's just wrong.
On the other hand, Eve Best is giving the performance of the season. For the first time ever (including Cherry Jones and Colleen Dewhurst in the film), I truly and wholeheartedly believed that Josie thought she could redeem Tyrone with her love. Every move she made had a reason behind it; there is nothing at all false about her performance. This is more than just acting; she's LIVING the character on stage, and it's fascinating. I just wish she had a capable co-star to match her step for step.
Colm Meaney is wonderful. I'd expect a Tony nomination, and he could be a real contender.
Even with names like Lansbury, Seldes and Redgrave in the mix, I really think Best has the Tony in the bag.
Finally: While there really is nothing technically wrong with Howard Davies' production, there is also no real kinetic spark. That's a problem.

AC126748, you hit the nail on the head. I completely agree.
I agree with AC126748 on every count except that I don't think Best will win. She will definitely be nominated, but I think even Julie White has a better shot. Also, nobody has seen Tonya Pinkins for Radio Golf yet, and I have a feeling she is going to be a BIG contender.
I'm in the really liked it camp with Joanne and kooky. :)

Just to narrow the field a bit, I did see Radio Golf a couple of weeks ago at the McCarter Theater where it had a short, pre-Broadway run, and Tonya Pinkins won't be winning a Tony for this one...As much as I loved her in Caroline, her part here is too small and even though she and Harry Lennix did a good job, the show I saw was pretty static and wasn't as good as the recent August Wilson plays at .
