Anyone know if this is still happening?
Bartlett Sher to Direct My Fair Lady Revival
Maybe after he does The King and I?
An Incomplete History of Peter Pan Live!
Well, not in 2014.
I would also wager that Sher wouldn't direct it until the 2015-2016 season as he has The King and I this season. That is, if this project is even still happening.
lol he has Fiddler on the Roof in the 2015-2016 season. Maybe in the 2016-2017 season? haha
I hope beyond hope that it happens. Sher does great work with classics (South Pacific, Golden Boy, Awake and Sing), so if anyone can do it, he can. Plus, it will expose such an amazing musical to a new generation.

Well if does direct I hope he does not cast Kelli O'Hara. I would love to see Laura Benanti as Eliza! I think she would be an amazing Eliza!
Hey what happened to a Man Of La Mancha revival while we are at it?. I guess any hope of seeing rarely revived musicals revived is now dead & buried. The same group of 5 or 10 will be revived ad infinitum .

Or course, Kelli has already played the role before. I think Laura would be great, but I was also thinking Jessie Mueller (she did say it's one of her dream roles).
I think Kelli O'Hara and Laura Benanti might be too old for the part. Jessie Mueller and Laura Osnes would be perfect
Please let this happen. There are already so many kids my age who haven't even heard of My Fair Lady, and it's very sad. This show is due for another revival, and it deserves another chance to be in the spotlight!
MFL is one of my favorite shows. I believe that it has several deep messages. Those who say it's misogynistic miss the point in my opinion -- Higgins does not respect Eliza till she stands up to him.
My only request: Please, PLEASE stop the trend towards casting senior citizens or near seniors as Higgins. There has to be sexual tension between Higgins and Eliza. I think Hugh Jackman or Gerard Butler would be perfect.

Jeff McCarthy played Higgins this last fall at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis and was incredible! It was the first time I actually enjoyed the role! While I respect Rex Harrison, the part was originally supposed to be sung, not the now standard "speak-singing" now associated with role. McCarthy found a very nuanced and balanced portrayal that payed homage to Harrison, but sang whenever it logically made sense! It made a huge difference, and in my opinion made him and Eliza more parallel. I would love for him to reprise this role for a Broadway revival!
AHL, Henry should still be older than Eliza, and Eliza should never be cast as older than 30 because it ruins the feet of her character (I'm looking at you, icecreambenjamin)

I've always felt like Audrey Hepburn looked too old for the role in the film. Eliza is supposed to be about 21, which was Julie Andrews's age when she originated the role.
