Actually if anybody is to blame for Jean spending all that money I guess it is I for bringing him to this site. LOL
SO, Urban, for your punishment, I request $600.05...now that that's settled!
I have to say Kaho was an extremely bad choice for the CSR!!! I mean, I saw Silvie 1/2 ago in Mamma Mia and could TOTALLY enjoy her and see her as Eponine... she went to London to do Eponine.. alongside Ruthie... and I think Linzi would do a better job! Not so annoying.... n MUCH sweeter! I mean... Linzi could belt..not such a strong way though... but her On My Own is still one of the sweetest/sadest I have heard!
Wow Jean! That's incredible! Like Thenardier, I only splurge when I "must." Maybe I'll eventually get the rest of the newer Japanese recordings, but not for a while. Footlight is a miracle, isn't it? (Especially for those of out here on the west coast!).
Footlight is amazing!
I wish there were more Les Mis recordings there - Iceland? Poland? etc.
^^ Exactly! Those are just a couple of the productions we know have happened, but I don't know of a recording of them. I may not have it, but at least I know a Korean recording exists.
Which -- now that I think of it -- makes it kinda worse.
I wish the Korean would be found!
When did Les Mis recordings become "Collect them all!"
For me? They always have been. I saw the Korean recording once on Ebay a few years ago, and didn't get it because I thought it was too expensive. Since then, I've paid more for other CR's, including the Purple.
To this day, the Korean remains the only Les Miz CR that I had the chance to get but didn't -- and that made me resolved to never let another one slip through my fingers.
I've been obsessed with Les Miz since third grade. It was the second show I ever saw (The first was Rent, but I didn't grasp it..(I spent the first seven years of my life in Appalachia, MD)) But ever since I saw Les Mis, I've never been able to really like any music except for showtunes. It is so beautiful...I wish I had the funds to collect every recording ever.

I have a weird fondness for the Korean cast recording. Technically it's by far the worst of the lot, sounding at times like it was recorded - and edited! - using a Walkman. And some of the singers aren't quite up to their parts. OTOH I do like the Cosette (AIRC, it's been a while since I've dusted it off) and they all sing with great passion, which has always been a defining characteristic of a successful Les Miz IMO.
It's a shame not all productions bothered to release a recording. I hope they do one for Shanghai in 2007.
Urban, I'll send you the bill.

Well, some of them just didn't have the money. The Madrid recording uses the Danish orchestral tracks.
This is what happened with the Mexican cast. When I saw the show, they had posters all over the theater saying to expect the CD very soon. Now they're saying they are not releasing a cast recording due to lack of funds...very upsetting!
I have Mexico's....
Love it!
I don't care what orchestral tracks they use....just wish they would all release one.
I wish the final bway cast made a csr...with the added/taken away stuff...
I have it too! but...it's a shame no official cast recording was released. LOL.
Does anyone have an info on the Brazilian production? I love Portugese, that production must have sounded beautiful.
Well, there's this, but it's not much. I was just on a more comprehensive site last night (I can't remember how I found it, though), and I'll link it if I can...

Evie, I found the new Bidnici/ Les Miserables recording at the German musical store soundofmusic.de. They ship to the States, convert credit card purchases from Euros, etc., so it's not a problem to purchase it, though it is one of the pricier ones I've bought.
The official lesmis.com has the dates of the Brazilian production. It's disappointing no official release has been made of any Latin American productions. What's the fun of the stats bragging on how many languages it's been performed in if one can't hear them all? (Personally, I most regret there not being one from Iceland. Japan gets 6, Iceland none, is that fair?)
Japan probably had more money.
Japan was also the first non-English production of the Les Mis we all know.
(that exludes the OFC)
Really? I thought it was Tel Aviv. (The tape I have seems to indicate it opened three months after Broadway.)
So when is it coming back to the NYC area? I saw the touring compnay in NJ at the NJPAC, and at West Point. Only bad thing is no full orchestra, but it was still great.
If it were there longer than five weeks you'd have gotten a full orchestra. :)
The tour is booked through '06. If it'll be back in NJ, it'll be after '06, or in the fall of that year.
the dates are all here
