The disconnect between the industry trade takes -- and they are usually more lenient, with an eye toward box office -- and the effusive, almost giddy posters here is startling. But hey, whatever works for whoever goes. I wouldn't pay to see it, but many will.
"Arquette might've been acceptable as Best Actress for BOYHOOD."
I would have no problem with Arquette being considered a lead. And the LA Film Critics, who gave her their best actress award, agree.
Wow, these reviews are just getting worse...

Good reviewers have such a way with words. They actually make me chuckle with some of their clever descriptions of things. My favorite wordplay in those roundups was Cameron Diaz being as funny as the "proverbial orphanage fire." Just awful.
I will agree with some of the critics that the musical numbers could've been staged better. I'm looking at you "I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here" and "Little Girls"!
But some of these reviews are somewhat funny in a way.
"And so, the once-heartwarming story of an orphan girl who craves the comfort of a real family is now a smash-cut commercial for the one percent, with lots of head-smackingly unsubtle product placement that never lets us forget how crassly commercially the whole enterprise is."
Hollywood doing this? You don't say!
"Hollywood doing this? You don't say!"
The horror! The horror!
I liked the concept of this new Hannigan, and was surprised that Cameron Diaz didn't pull it off as well as I had expected her to (I usually like her in parts like this). I found myself longing for Jane Krakowski or Kristen Wiig.
Rose Byrne, on the other hand, was absolute perfection.
Wow. A 0% Top Critics on RT. Brutal.
So is Jordan the only human being on the planet who actually liked the film?
Well I liked certain aspects of the film.... Yeah Jordan is the only one who really liked it all the way.
"Rose Byrne, on the other hand, was absolute perfection."
When is she not absolute perfection??? I LOVE her. If someone could edit everything out except Rose Byrne, I'd buy that version of ANNIE.
@Jungle Red, That would be wonderful, she was one of the reasons why ANNIE is only a "meh" movie and not a god-awful, cringe-worthy musical movie to me.
Anybody else find it funny that Will Gluck wore so many hats in the making of this movie and Jaime Foxx's character is also named Will?
@Ado, I'm pretty sure that it's just a coincidence. But the RT rating so far is a rather BIG OUCH, it's lower than NINE.
I still don't think Nine was that bad of a film...if you look at the individual vignettes. It's a shadow of the stage version, that's for sure. But Penelope Cruz's "A Call from the Vatican" is one of my favorite scenes, as is "Be Italian." Heck, I even think "Cinema Italiano" is fun...in a guilty pleasure sort of way.
I agree, NINE ranks right up there with XANADU, THE APPLE, ROLLER BOOGIE etc as the best guilty pleasure films ever for me.
Besides I'd rather watch NINE than ANNIE any day of the week.

I know NINE gets so much hate, but I actually really enjoy the film. There are certain fun and cute aspects in this updated version, but I can't help think that the execs were on something when they approved the shooting draft and casting.
I hated it.. it's suppose to be based on the "broadway show". Annie being black has nothing to do with it, she's great. The bad: script, lyrics change, & music.?
@JoseLee, I agree with you. My BIGGEST issue with the film altogether is that they changed way too much from the original. This movie doesn't even trust the fact that it is a musical.
It doesn't even trust itself that it's a film.

That one song they sing in the helicopter will haunt me till I die.
I can't wait until this movie disappears...which should be in about another week and any semblance of it's existence disappears...that is until they release it on DVD/blu-ray, which should be in about another 4 weeks by the looks of it.
I just want all those horrible ANNIE bus ads, subway posters and billboards to GO AWAY!!!
When you think of ANNIE you're supposed to get all warm + fuzzy inside. This sh¡t has the opposite effect on me. It makes me hostile and I want to kick a dog or a little girl...and I am not a violent person in the least.
