My review of the New Radio City Christmas Show

Posted: 11/8/07 at 3:13pmThe ending was just too heavy handed and over the top for the simplicity of the Christmas story. From the humble beginnings with 30 foot golden robes.... come on!

My feelings about the ending to the show stay the same. So save your time trying to tell me what I already know about Christmas. NOWHERE did I say it was just about Santa and Gifts! NOWHERE did I say his miracle brought me down. What brought me and most of the theater down was the way it was presented. Not the visuals but the heavy handedness of it. So don't include me in with those who don't know the meaning of Christmas. As I said, you don't know me. We will just disagree about this.

Posted: 11/8/07 at 4:18pmWoo! I just meant that after such a light hearted show, the Nativity seemed a bit much and too serious as compated to the rest of the show. It;s like they wanted to say "oh that first hour and a half of the show? Just kidding."

"And there were in the same country shepherds, abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them! And they were sore afraid ... And the angel said unto them, "Fear not! For, behold, I bring you tidings o great joy, which shall be to all my people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ, the Lord."
"And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger." And suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the Heavenly Host praising God, and saying, "Glory to God in the Highest, and on Earth peace, and good will toward men."
"That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown." - Linus Van Pelt
Only took Linus about 2 minutes to deliver that and it had more of an impact on me.

Posted: 11/8/07 at 4:33pmWell...I don't believe in God...so, for me, it's about Santa, presents and my mom's cooking. And I'm a-ok with that.

You are one of the people that drive me nuts!!! (not really, I like you and your views)
I will always think that those who don't believe in God shouldn't share in our Christian holy day.. I mean, you don't even believe in the guy so why celebrate it....
But that's my personal opinion which I have a right to..
ncage or whatever your name is:
Suck it!

May I ask why you are targeting me? I am not the only person in this thread who feels this way about the ending of the show. And all you have to do is look at my name, and you would have it right.
And would God approve of what you told me to do at the end of that post? I think not. We are all entitled to our opinions and should not have to be chastized for them the way you are chastizing me. And you are evidently not reading my posts. I DO believe in God. I will pray for you.

"I am offended when those who don't even believe in Jesus celebrate Christmas."
Why? For the most part, they're celebrating "the holidays," not Christmas. There's plenty of people who celebrate Hanukkah, Kwanzaa,Yule, the Winter solstice etc. You being offended is as silly as non-Christians being offended by the Nativity story at a Christmas show.

Actually Christians co-opted the holiday. It was celebrated long before Jesus. I believe the followers of Mythrus (whose story remarkably is similar to that of Jesus though predates him by a couple hundred years) celebrated on or about Dec 25 TH.
Early Christians, when promoting Christianity would kinda take over holidays already being celebrated and sneak Jesus into them.
So, be ye Christian, Jew, Muslim or whatever, a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season to you all!

"I am offended that Jesus and the nativity get a lousy few minutes at the end. THAT is offensive... "
All depends on how you look at it. My view is that they save the BEST part for the end.

"You have obviously LOST the true meaning of Christmas.. Christmas is about Christ and his birth;."
Yeah, but that ain't as entertaining as dancing elves.
And one doesn't need to buy expensive show tickets to learn about Christ.
If it's the true meaning of Christmas one is looking for, then the whole Radio City Christmas Show should just be canceled and all cash that would have been spent on/for that should go to the poor. Nobody needs a prettified, theatrical display of religion at Radio City to figure out the true meaning of Christmas.

The true meaning of Christmas was lost years ago
A few years ago we went to midnight mass with friends. It was nice but alas never happened again.
We will have a great Christmas this year.

I feel like I ignited this firestorm here. I am not anti-Jesus and I know that "Jesus is the reason for the season". Sorry if I offended anyone.
