I'm seeing it tomorrow...hope it's not too painful.
it is definitely not painful...
painful is PQ, CB, IML, DOTV...
I'm going tomorrow...ok technically tonight...I hope I like it
Can we at least agree that the choreography was REALLY good?
If someone says Fosse's choreography isn't good. I will seriously lose all hope for this damn generation of Broadway fans.
"really good" doesn't do it justice. the choreography was FABULOUS.
Despite the mean things I said about Krakowski, I think she is wonderful, if not a star. And I love her on 30 Rock. Can she get an Emmy nod this year? Please?
And ljay, I'll lose all hope with you. I guess Bill T. Jones is good enough for them.
I don't know, I feel like I've seen that choreography somewhere before...
WaT,
apologies for demeaning it with REALLY good, I've been up since 6, got home past midnight, and shouldn't really be talking/posting in public places.I swear during the performances more fitting words were coming out of my mouth slash running through my head. I think magical and remarkable were among the bunch.

The DAMN YANKEES revival with Bebe Neuwirth and Victor Garber was actually the first show I ever saw on a Broadway stage, and needless to say, I have fond memories of it. So perhaps it's unfair to compare, but this production felt incredibly flat and outright lazy to me. It felt like they were doing it just for the sake of it, and no one seemed particularly passionate (Jane, Sean and Cheyenne's eye-rolling during the curtain call singing of "Heart" for the third time was especially noticeable).
Yes, Krakowski's playing the vamp AGAIN, but I still thought she made it work-- she can't not be awesome. Cheyenne did the absolute best he could, but Joe Hardy's always been an awfully boring character and not much can be done about that. As for Sean Hayes, well... he was fairly funny at moments, but completely wrong for Applegate in almost every way. During "Those Were the Day," his little added flourishes (the piano, the violin, the interludes) were amusing, but they completely RUIN the song. It almost seemed like he was rushing through the song itself and mumbling the lyrics to hurry along to his "funny" bits.
And I don't know if it's just poor memory of the show, or this production's utilization of it, but is it just me, or is "Who's Got the Pain" one of the most completely superfluous (and unnecessarily lengthy) songs/numbers in a show ever?
Overall, very very disappointed here. Nothing awful, but it seemed significantly more unnecessary and joyless than I would have hoped for.

I don't know, I feel like I've seen that choreography somewhere before...
- The movie?? lol
hmm, maybe the movie. it also looks kind of like the choreography in Cabaret and Chicago. I guess that's a coincidence. =P
Well Fosse only choreographed the Cabaret movie. And the Chicago revival only uses choreography inspired by his style, though "The Hot Honey Rag" is a recreation of his original.
this is what I get for sassing without researching. after I said Cabaret, I realized I wasn't even sure if he had choreographed the stage production.
anyway, I, naturally, found the choreography amazing. I'm just amused by how easy it is to recognize that it's Fosse choreography sometimes.
The production a couple of years ago at the Arena Stage in Washington DC was superb. It proved what a really great show DAMN YANKEES is...if it's given the right treatment.
I saw that production at Arena Stage with DottieD'Luscia, and yes, it was fantastic!
Is the orchestra onstage or in the pit, or what?
My mom's going on the 16th, and I'm going on the 18th!
Yankee, I'm sorr you didn't enjoy the show.
I'm going with a positive outlook, whatever the reviews.
I'm new to City Center, so yeah...

LOL - Zing!
Is the orchestra onstage, or in the pit?
as it is with every production at City Center.
LimelightMike may ask about the seats all the time, but he's so sweet about it! That's why it never bothers me.
