I know last year they got into serious talks about doing Cinderella with Mary J. Blige but then had scheduling and availability issues. They may go back to that idea?

Don't they already have the rights for music man? I think that's what they're doing. I hope they get Kristen Bell or Megan Hilty for Marian!

Does anyone agree with me that NOT having a live audience really hurts these shows? After a big, rolocking number, which is being performed LIVE, the silence is just odd and deadly.
I know it isn't there in movie musicals but that's a different kind of thing. These musicals on TV LOOK live, if that makes any sense at all.
Doing West Side Story with the original Robbins choreography and top notch talent could be amazing.

I think the main problem without the studio audience, is that they still stage some of the numbers to end with a "Smile n pose" applause freeze. Which of course looks awful without an audience reaction. It makes sense why they would make it like that because that's the way the numbers are staged in the theatre, but it doesn't work. Whether they could stage some of them any other way is questionable though.

Yeah, even in a movie the ends of songs aren't nearly as thud-like. It doesn't help that a lot of the songs lead into a commercial-break. They should consider playout music into the commercial breaks.
