Hey, her billing is above Judy Tenuta, and I looove Judy Tenuta. Not for her comedy (its often not funny and kind of overly offensive) but I love her attitude.
That's so sad...she has such talent. I'd like to see her on Broadway.
I'm sure she would be more than Welcome to reprise her great Tracy on the Neil Simon stage ! Why is she wasting her great talent doing this ?
I guess it's the Tracy Turnblad curse.
None of the previous ladies who've played Tracy: Ricki Lake and Marissa Jaret Winokur, found any success in film work.
At least Ricki found success with her ghetto-fab teen talk show The Ricki Lake Show, which enjoyed an 11 year run. Marissa -- as an extra-with-some-occasional-lines in the short-run Pamela Anderson produced FOX sitcom STACKED.
Don't be too hard on her .. its an RSVP Cruise, so its not like she's a performer on a regular cruise itinerary, going out every 2 weeks on the same voyage. RSVP hires performers specificially for their cruises; they are not employees of the cruise line.
Sad? A couple years ago she was schlepping at at Cold Stone. Now she is a working performer!
There are TONS of equally talented people who don't EVER get to make ends meet by performing. Have some perspective.
I think you still keep her in the cinderella-story category.
Get back to me with this thread if you see her behind the counter scooping ice cream again.
I really see no shame in performing on a cruise ship.
Many "not working on Broadway" actors do so. Look at the lineup on Rosie's cruise (Rosie? Nancy Opel? Anyone???)
Some of these gigs are more prestigious than headlining in Vegas.
Oh, Rosie's Family Cruises are NOT in the same caliber, hence all the Broadway talent that appear on her cruises.
Geez.

I don't understand why she wouldn't have been asked to perform as Tracy (or at least check into auditioning for the role) on broadway. I mean, the show has fallen under the "Rent" curse for a while now- casting washed up popstars (and in some case 'movie stars'- Alexa Vega?) into the roles. I feel like Blonsky could have been a draw for audience members, at least as much as the likes of Ashley Parker-Angel.
And as for MJW's movie career...wasn't she in film before landing the role of Tracy? I remember seeing her in American Beauty; was that before or after Hairspray? I feel like I see her a lot in movies on T.V. Just the other day FX was showing Fever Pitch and she was playing one of Drew Barrymore's friends.
She has another movie coming out this year. Give the girl a break! Maybe she wanted to sing somewhere. Yeesh! Always assuming the worst!

Her little part in American Beauty is probably the funniest scene of the entire film.

Maybe she should go to college.
Lester (Kevin Spacey) was searching for a low stress job after being fired from his job. His wife (Annette Benning) has started to have an affair with a fellow real estate agent and does not know where Lester has been working but has been revelling in her new found freedom.
Marissa owns in this scene.
amazing

Exactly what I was thinking. Anyone think maybe she just wants a paid vacation? Get paid to preform and a free cruise? I would take it.

hey, i have great respect for anyone who can keep their bills paid!
I wrote on something a while back about me seeing her in a "Check-n'-to-cash" commercial...and I wish I tivoed it, cause now I have not seen it since and now one believes me it was her!

Bull, it's still a boat. All that Broadway talent you bow down to are still performing on a cruise. Cruise ships have come a long way since The Poseidon. The big ones are like Vegas on the sea. Huge showrooms. It isn't the cliché it was years ago but then Vegas isn't anymore either. Perhaps Miss Blonsky is trying out an act, in luxury and getting paid to boot.
An act? What, she's now a cabaret performer or a Vegas headliner? Who's writing for her? Bruce Vilanch?
Face it -- her agent is limited in what types of gigs she can get. Its the reality of the business and the country nor industry caught the 'fat girls rule' bug.
Its happened before (Ricki and Marissa). Just hope better things happen for her since the window of opportunity seems to have slammed shut. For now, at least.
I still don't understand how come she can't star at Hairspray the show! It's not like they would turn her down, if she showed interest ! They picked her for THE MOVIE, for crying out loud ! She can easily be the next Tracy ! Plus, the publicity would be great for the show !
