What do you guys think of this? I really like the movie (even though they condense the books so much). Neil would probably be a super campy Olaf - the perfect kind.
Would much much rather see it go to an older character actor, but I'll still check it out.

I was actually pulling for Bill Hader but I'm reserving my judgment until I see the show. I loved the books as a kid.
I'll admit that I'm still in a state of NPH fatigue after his gig as host of the Oscars. But I have the admit that this is pretty spot-on casting and he'll probably nail the role. I'm very excited about this series. I love the books and I actually love the film quite a bit too, despite its truncation of the novels. I have high hopes for this

I loved the books as I was growing up, and was thrilled when Netflix announced they were doing this. I have high hopes. That being said I hate this casting. I just think that it is really wrong. I'm not saying NPH isn't talent, obviously he is, but he is always NPH. On his Best Time Ever show, whenever he got dressed up in a disguise, he always tried to speak as little as possible because his voice would give him away. He always sounds like NPH. Count Olaf should be able to disappear in the disguise. Jim Carrey was a great choice for the film. I was really hoping we would get some exciting casting (I would have loved for it to go to, say, Gary Oldman). But I will still watch it and hopefully I am wrong.
I was never entirely sure: how good are the disguises really meant to be?

Same here. I mean you always knew it was Jim Carey. And the kids always knew it was Olaf. It's just the idiot adults he seemed to trick.
Isn't NPH producing this? This isn't surprising news. I'm a fan so that's ok by me :)
Yes, the joke is that it's always obviously Olaf but nobody notices but the kids. The obliviousness of adults is a key theme in the books!
I'd love to know rest of the casting details. Especially Josephine (played by Meryl in the movie).

Seems like they're going in a very different direction than the movie, which is fine by me.
I'm worried Harris as a campy villain will end up looking like his part in A Million Ways to Die In The West, which was a train wreck. Granted, not all NPH's fault- but he didn't help.
The effete, elegant, Byronesque Lemony Snicket, narrator and secondary character, is being played by Patrick Warburton. So, there's no real way to tell what they're gonna do here.

Could this be related to the "secret project" he mentioned on Instagram? He was at the Plaza Hotel

Since they've just begun to announce the casting I doubt they've done much in the way of production.
Warburton is a bizarre choice for Snicket but he has good comic timing.
