I wouldn't say I talked myself into it. K-POP was more of an experience than watching a traditional musical. It's hard to explain in words unless you saw the show itself. In order for it to work, timing has to be impeccable and it felt new to me. The set was very specific too. I'm not an expert in musicals or plays but I did feel that it was more a play with music because the plot was driven by dialogue than by song.

I enjoyed SpongeBob a great deal, but I would not say it was "Best" of this season or deserving of the title. That has nothing to do with the prospect of awarding a property based off of SpongeBob. It has everything to do with the quality of the show itself.

I disagree with the general sentiments here. It's totally fine if they want to not honor a musical in a particular year --- but then they should call the award "Outstanding Musical," like the Drama Desk award.
"Best" is a comparative term!
The clear implication, as with the Tony Awards, is that the honor is for "Best of the Season." Not the "Best of the Season if We Deem the Season's Offerings Acceptable Enough."
