Bravo to the director Michael Arden, the authors, and especially Darren & Helen for the amazing rave reviews and The NY Times selection as one of the 10 Best shows of 2024. Thrilling to see this show so honored not only by the critics but by so many theatergoers whose comments after seeing the show are glowing.
There are other threads already on this topic, but wanted to offer a view to counter the gushing narrative that has taken over this board. I don’t get it. Yes, the design and staging are great (though the design may work against the material) but everything else about this show was mediocre, with the score not even meeting that low standard. I admired Criss’ performance but that is the best I can say about the two leads And when I saw it this weekend, the audience response was luke warm.

Why do you want to counter it? Do you have a pebble in your shoe?
