I agree with some of them. But I think that Best Book of a Musical will go to Jersey Boys and Best Score and Best Musical will go to The Drowsy Chaperone.

I actually agree with all of their picks except one.
I don't think Jim Dale will be winning. I think Manoel or Christian has a much better shot.

I think Drowsy will definitely win Best Book. And it deserves too.
I'm praying that Jersey Boys wins Best Musical.

Posted: 6/9/06 at 11:19amI just did my picks over on my myspace blog (before reading the nytimes article) and we agreed almost down the line.

heard today on one NY radio station, some reporter said that the Best Musical race is between Jersey Boys and The Wedding Singer.. They said it's the favorite this year.
I honestly can't believe that.

Well, to count THE COLOR PURPLE out of the race is just silly - sure, the show is not good - but with Oprah behind it, it might win the gold. Plus, it's a huge money maker. Something with Oprah's name on it will sell a hell of a lot more tickets than THE DROWSY CHAPERONE or even JERSEY BOYS.
I really hope Jim Dale doesn't win - it would just be ridiculous. He's fine, but not as good as Felciano or Hoff. I could not understand a single word out of Dale's mouth and I thought his performance was phoned in and sloppy - like much of the show.
If he wins- it will not be because he's any good - it will be because he's 70 years old and because he's Jim Dale. The Morgan Freeman award.

I'm really hoping Doyle gets Best Director.

I'm hoping for Jersey Boys to take Best Musical, Christian Hoff to take Best Featured Actor, John Lloyd Young to take Best Leading Actor, and Drowsy Chaperone to take Best Score. I'm kinda in the middle about book, I think it will either be Jersey Boys or The Drowsy Chaperone.

Munk,
Nicely said about Jim Dale...
I can't understand why people like the score of Drowsy so much.
"Show Off" is great, but otherwise, I found it completely forgettable.

Posted: 6/9/06 at 2:33pmI was thinking about what would happen if Wedding Singer won. I know it won't, but man how awesome would it be if it did? I love big upsets like that. I'd love it if Color Purple won though. I think Drowsy needs the win to sustain a long run.
re: NY Times Tony award prediction#13
Posted: 6/9/06 at 2:44pmI think COLOR PURPLE will win at least something - If not score, perhaps an upset in Best Supporting Actress.

I couldn't agree more.
re: NY Times Tony award prediction#15
Posted: 6/9/06 at 2:50pmI personally think the score to DROWSY is like a lot of shows, better on repeated hearings.
re: NY Times Tony award prediction#16
Posted: 6/9/06 at 2:57pmI think The Drowsy Chaperone will (and should) win Best Musical. It's definitely a close race between that and Jersey Boys.

I'm still pulling for Drowsy, because it was such a rare, unique find. I was so inspired by its originality. It was like a breath of fresh air and it kept me "creatively humming" for weeks, even months.
But I haven't seen Jersey Boys yet, and understand from many friends who live in the city that it's a terrific show. So, I'm not discounting its quality in the least.
I'm just pulling for Drowsy, for the reasons I stated above!

The Score od DROWSY is incredibly charming and so fitting of the play.
I hope it wins Best Score, best Book and Best Musical!

DROWSY will win best book and score - no competition here this year.
I think JERSEY BOYS is a much better musical and I had a much better time at the Wilson than I did at the Marquis - but I am pulling for DROWSY for one reason only - to encourage originality.
