So what, is there a plot now? Will they be naked? I assume it won't get a theatrical release...
Really, though, of all things!

Wow. haha.
Yea for Bob.
This makes me want to cut my wrists. Not only is it bad enough that this degrading show is viewed three times a week by NYC audiences... but now it is going to be available for mass release? Great.
Can I get half price tix for the film too?
Is this film really in production? IMDB doesn't even have it listed.

IMDB also doesn't have Mama Mia! listed. Don't trust that site.

I can't think of any reason to do the film without the nudity. I'm actually looking forward to it. I think the show is good, clean fun!

I wonder how they'll frame it. Head & shoulder shots are boring, and full shots are too gratuitous.

I think they'll do a combination--it's a film after all. I don't think it's going to be a static camera in front of the stage.
they dont have mama mi! because its Mamma mia!

Did I say Mama Mi! or Mama Mia!...I'm pretty sure I said Mama Mia!.
and the rating will be...
Maybe it will be in a boxed set with "Oh, Calcutta!"....

now it is going to be available for mass release? Great.
Neither article says anything about mass release. The way it seems is that it is either going to go straight to DVD or it will have limited release, probably just in NYC and L.A.
i will probably buy it... lol. its a cute show! and after awhile, who cares if they're naked?

It's probably the craziest set up for a show I've ever heard, but whatever. It's good clean fun. As much nudity as there is, there's nothing really sexual about it. It's just a stunt to get people into seats.
It was cool to see Kevin Stea and Sal Vassallo were cast. They were back up dancers for Madonna and Cher and they are adorable and talented.
In response to the one who says the show is degrading. It is no more degrading than going to a male/female strip club. It is a funny show, and just entertainment. You don't have to go see it, but don't call it degrading. I think it's impressive that it has lasted so long.
I don't think this is a "film" the way you're thinking, guys. From the sound of it, it's along the lines of those "recorded for posterity" types of shows like the Sondheim recordings, although perhaps it's more a hybrid, like the specially-cast-and-filmed Cats and Joseph.
I agree, bwaysinger.
It says it's being "filmed," but it talks about someone supervising the digital video direction. That's not film. It sounds like a direct-to-video release, perhaps being shot in HD. It certainly isn't a quality cinematic production (technically) if they're shooting it on video.
And as far as "big screen," do they mean a 60" plasma?
Too bad George Livengood isn't going to be in it. He was always my favorite.
What would be hilarious was if they did the entire thing ala Austin Powers. Where they had them singing naked but had inventive things or phallic looking pieces of food or whatnot covering up their areas in every song. And like all the quick saves to cover up as they turn around and everything, once agin like in Austin Powers and then for the very last song on the very last note they can all whip their schlongs out. A cinematic money shot.....or did Shortbus already cover cinematic money shots?

I suspect, like most Funny Boy productions it will get a minor film release in a few large cities and go to home video where it will do most of its business.
There is nothing degrading about a naked human body.
