"That's my two cents."
I've got news for you lovebwy, you could hit these people over the head with all the facts about AIDS and what Reagan did. Believe me I've done it. But the bottom line is FACTS just don't matter to some people.
PISH is more powerful than FACTS!!

Today I had the chance to dispute pervasive media propaganda elevating the Reagans, and place them in the swamp of dishonor where they belong. -- Sarah Schulman

There is nothing quite like the situation of people who weren't there telling people who were there what the experience of being there was like.

So long now.
[The funny thing about Mikey's Reagan/AIDS defense all those years ago was that he published it under a previous screen name which he denied was his when he came back with this name! Of course, it was the work of a conservative "author" lifted verbatim and published without attribution.]

She was also strongly anti-choice in addition to being the "Just Say No" marionette and flighty AIDS denier.
Also, did we ever get a definitive on whether or not ketchup is a vegetable?

As for healthcare, it wasn't the issue then that it is now.

Yeah of all the "I don't know what I'm talking about but if I write it definitively then it will BE the truth" in that post, that healthcare line was the most hilarious.

Did you ever hear of respecting the office/title and not the person? President Nixon was a crook and had to resign from office but when he died he was still mourned (Democrats and Republicans) because he was a former VP and POTUS. Fine you do not want to do that but most people will show respect when a person like Mrs.Reagan dies because she served this country as first lady.
"
Um Im not American, so i don't have to respect that office, nor do I have to respect her. I'm not basking in the glory of her death, she and her husband sentenced enough people to an early grave. And really you respect that office all the time!

Actually, Mikey, you haven't. Time to withdraw your pronouncement that reagans inaction was a myth.
Trying to imagine a scenario how you personally got to a point where you feel defensive toward Ronnie and Nancy (aka mommy)

And, I will applaud her work in pushing for stem cell research, and raising awareness for Alzheimer's. Another issue that impacts me personally.
Few people are 100% good or 100% bad.
I thank her for the good work she did. There were flaws, but there was good."
beautifully put. thanks for sharing that

NYadgal, I totally despised this woman. I did not know of her contributions to breast cancer and Alzheimer's awareness, which also impacts me personally. Thank you for sharing this information. I can also agree she had many many faults. But she did some good. Like you, I thank her for those issues she helped.

It should be noted that Saint Nancy didn't change her opinion on stem cell research until it affected her personally, so she was a Republican through and through!

If that's directed at me, PRS, at no point did I refer to her as Saint Nancy.
I would also offer that many of us come to terms with, and change our opinions about, issues when they begin to impact us personally. That's a common human condition. People are educated and their opinions and feelings change when they are exposed to something that has a personal impact on them. I can never fault someone for that.
How wonderful to live in a world where education isn't needed, and we're all born with the right answers.

It wasn't directed at anyone. I guess I just don't believe in venerating people for their solipsism. And I don't think anyone is born with the "right" answers, but I think a lot can be said about the character (or lack thereof) of people who only change their views on something when it affects them personally. Especially, since in a lot of cases, they do active harm to people who do NOT affect them personally.

i think a lot of it has to do with mercy and forgiveness as well. it is like the families of victims who learn to forgive and even love the perpetrator. it is a personal choice and decision and issue dicated by our own morals and values. not everyone can do that. personally i cannot. but i respect the people who can show that to even the worst of human beings.

Actually, Comden Green, I have. Right here on this website (probably on the Off Topic Board).
All you are doing, Comden, by insisting I haven't, is exposing yourself as "new to the board".

Mikey!
where do I begin to respond to your post?
-rather than answer my question you choose to insult me.
- and the best insult you can come up with is that i am new here. (Though you can clearly see that is not true.).
- you insist that you have answered but you yourself are not exactly sure where "Probably...."
- you imply that, though you made your unusual pronouncement on this thread that it is my job to search the entire site for the evidence you probably posted.
Actually, Mikey I really do want to know if my conclusions are a myth as you say. How hard is it for you to just post your evidence here?
Thanks

The poster isn't lying, he did post a conservative author's ridiculous whitewashing of the Reagan AIDS record (without attribution but it was easy to find with a google search). But the funny thing is, he did it under a previous screen name, and when he showed up as mikey he denied being himself.
That's the funny part, and that's why his memory is so sketchy. Just tell the truth mikey, then you don't have to keep track of your lies. You've obviously lost track.

Also, here's an amendment I made to my post of Monday afternoon:
If the first lady fag hag [<----Namo's note: I'm not going to edit that out but thanks to somebody pointing it out to me, I would like to say that this really is a ridiculously misogynist construct that I had no business invoking just on account of the Reagan record still leaves me enraged. But you know how I'm always saying, "Of course white people are racist, it's in our DNA? Well, we men have a LOT of work to do to keep our misogyny in check until, maybe, someday there isn't any misogyny anymore. Anyhoo, I didn't want to disappear what I wrote, so I'll leave it there, with a vow to try to do better.] Nancy Reagan had had the wherewithal to tell Ronnie that her psychics said he should do something about the AIDS epidemic instead of worrying about appearances and needing their homosexuality to be the old-fashioned, closeted kind, a whole LOT of us might have experienced a very different 1980s, Mr Roxy.
