People. Respect. Jeez, the body isn't even cold yet.

Why should there be respect, her and her husband refused to admit about a health crisis that took some many people. Respect far far from it.

"This really, really should be on the Off-Topic board. "
Somebody created one with title only and left subject field blank on Off-Topic board. I guess it was deleted from there.

I find it truly amazing how mean spirited people on this board can be. This is the 2nd death recently where people seem to be so "happy" about somebody passing away. I can get not liking someone politically but to seem to enjoy somebody's death really makes me shake my head. I wonder what the reaction would be if some liberal icon passed away and people starting making the same type of comments. Maybe it is me but if somebody dies that I may have not liked for whatever reason, I would not post on a thread that I was happy they were gone especially when the thread is about expressing condolences.

I would have been surprised if it did not happen. It is standard operating procedure on BWW

The legacy of the Reagans' inaction while thousands of gay men died gruesome deaths is hard to forget. Nancy in particular declined to help prolong Rock Hudson's life or even mitigate his suffering because she said it wouldn't look good for the White House. I'm not celebrating anyone's death, but I won't pretend to grieve or forget. She had 94 years which is far more than any of those men got.

Did you ever hear of respecting the office/title and not the person? President Nixon was a crook and had to resign from office but when he died he was still mourned (Democrats and Republicans) because he was a former VP and POTUS. Fine you do not want to do that but most people will show respect when a person like Mrs.Reagan dies because she served this country as first lady.

What office? She was married to the asshole who became president.
Unless by respect you mean the same kind of respect she showed to people suffering with AIDS?
I don't get the whole "show respect" thing. If you knew her or are going to her funeral, then show respect. On an anonymous message board populated by people to whom she caused harm she gets the respect she deserves.
When Fred Phelps dies he got the respect he deserved.
When Putin dies should we all wear black because he held office? Nonsense.

You did not like what she did in her life and that is fine but you are not "celebrating" her death which has been my point in a couple of other posts.

yankee, why don't you grieve in your own way and stop judging others for their feelings.

"I don't get the whole "show respect" thing"
It is real simple and I mentioned it in other posts. Don't "celebrate" the death of someone in a thread that was created to acknowledge/mourn their death. If you want to slam her for the inaction against AIDS then create another post in OT.

Well I take issue with anyone who would offer respect to such a heinous human being.
Office holder or not.
She's dead, and the world is a little better off to be gone of her rancid karma.
You want to wear black, be my guest. But don't tell me to "respect" some idiot because she happened to hold an office.

Should we organize a prayer service on the anniversary of Stalin's death?
I mean, he was a leader and held an office.

First I am not grieving, why should I grieve? The women lived a darn good life and lived to 94. As for judging others, I just stated my opinion about them being "happy" somebody died. I thought a message board was to express opinion even if it was different. I will stop now because I think I would only be beating the subject to death. have a good day.

You're right, it is a message board.
And we are all entitled to our feelings and opinions.
You're "not grieving" in the same way I'm "celebrating", which is to say neither of us is doing what their being accused of.

people are cold and heartless. i am sure there are people who still mourn Hitler's death. who are we to judge who "celebrates" and who "mours." let people be. whatever they want to do doesnt impact you or anyone else. you do you, as they say. i just dont understand how this related to Broadway or why there is an exclamation point but other than that.. who cares. yankeefan, you cannot control how other people react. that is their free will and choice. it is not like they are going to the funeral and causing a riot.

Nobody asking us to respect a Reagan on this board by some weird authoritarian default could possibly know the theatre community (largely gay community) very well.

Honestly, there's no point in "respecting" THE DEAD because... they're dead, and why would they give a crap then?
The only thing the dead leave behind are memories of their (in)actions, and it is upon those that all the living will judge them because it is those (in)actions that affected and may still affect other lives. Same goes for Scalia. Same goes for any other person of some historical significance.
