Does anyone know what's going on with the status of Mendoza's injury?
The creative team announced that her inability to rehearse major changes to the show after getting hurt was part of the reason for the newest opening delay, but it seems she's out of the show again. From what I've read, T.V. Caprio has been on as Arachne pretty consistently as of late, if not the last week or so all together.
Is Mendoza not as fully recovered as she was initially reported to be, or are they preparing to just replace her? It seems odd that they'd even put Carpio on, since she never covered the role previously.
What happened to Olivo? Are they just giving Carpio a chance now?
I wondered about that myself last night. There were no understudies listed on the board in the lobby, but was surprised to see the insert listing Carpio. Personally, I found her voice to be a little "rough" in places, but I suppose mine would be too if I was being swung all over creation while trying to deliver a song. That being said...a lot of the evening was "rough" in MANY places.
Some of the recent press coverage about Chris Tierney's accident has included a statement from the show's press rep saying Mendoza is out of the show again "due to vocal rest mandated by her doctor."
Has she injured her voice now since coming back?
I wasn't even aware she'd returned.

Which board were you looking at? There are two understudy boards, one near each entrance. When I saw the show, they only posted the substitutions on one of them, which I found odd.
Swing Joined: 12/27/10
I entered from 42nd, so that was the one I saw. Did you come in on 43rd, adamgreer?

Yes, I did. The understudy board was next to a merch stand. The one near 42nd Street was empty, while mine had the Arachne substitution on it, along with a couple of swings.
Perhaps they should add the producer du jour who makes the pre-show announcement via index card, the ushers who rush down the aisles in a frenzy and crouch during the flying sequences, and the disembodied voice (I was under the mezz overhang, so I couldn't see him) who stops the show and makes us feel like we are literally in a rehearsal a place on the board too.
I liked her voice on Saturday night (TV Carpio) but didn't think all that much of the role. (of course, I didn't think much of how any of the characters were written.)
