Nederlander Mezz question

People probably hate the preface to these questions as much as the questions themselves, but whatever. I'm not really asking about the view, so the billion threads on this wouldn't help me. For anyone who's been up there, how high is it? I have a fairly slight fear of heights; will I hate myself for sitting up there?

re: Nederlander Mezz question

I mean its a small theater so I don't think its that high- but personally I have never been up there. I am more concerned with is it really worth 500 dollars to sit in the rear mezz? I mean thats a lot of money... ah such a dilemma

re: Nederlander Mezz question

I've seen the view from up there once, like, when I went upstairs to the bathroom. But I honestly don't remember it.

The benefit concert isnt being held at the Nederlander, its happening at the New York Theatre Workshop.

Please tell me you're kidding, and you're not really *that* misinformed.

re: Nederlander Mezz question

It's not so bad, nothing like the palace's balcony or anything. I personally think the view is better than in the orchestra, not that that's relevant to your question re: Nederlander Mezz question. Honestly, the scariest thing up there is the barely plaster patched ceiling.

re: Nederlander Mezz question

Like others have said, it's not bad at all. I have a fear of heights and it didn't bother me. That said, the leg room (at least where I sat) was lacking (and I'm tiny!).

luvtheEmcee, I was not adressing you. I was telling bwaylover86 because he seems to think the concert is being held at the Nederlander.

re: Nederlander Mezz question

No, the concert is at the Nederlander. The reason the info is on the NYTW site is that they're getting part of the money raised, and obviously, because of their ties to Rent.

re: Nederlander Mezz question

Wow, I really am misinformed! re: Nederlander Mezz question And here I am thinking that it has so much symbolism because they are having it at the place where it was first performed, Ha! Thanks for the info!

re: Nederlander Mezz question

re: Nederlander Mezz question

re: Nederlander Mezz question

The height isn't really the biggest problem in the rear mezz. It's the lack of legroom. That last group of rows is VERY uncomfortable.

re: Nederlander Mezz question

I am for once grateful for my short legs.

Let's do it this way; if you had to compare the height to that at another theatre, what would you say? I know they're not bad seats, the view is fine, etc. (I also realize that this is a dumb question.)

re: Nederlander Mezz question

emcee, I honestly haven't sat up there for years but I don't remember it being terrible in terms of height. I also am not fond of heights and I don't think it caused me any problem.

re: Nederlander Mezz question

Honestly- I would not worry about the height, I mean its rear mezz so its not like your looking right over the railing so unless you have a REALLY big fear of heights- don't worry about it

re: Nederlander Mezz question

I've sat in the Rear Mezz for RENT. The view wasn't bad. And more importantly I don't think you have anything to worry about in terms of fear of heights.

Are you gonna do it, emcee? I'm so tempted. But I don't know if I am being incredibly stupid.

re: Nederlander Mezz question

I really, truly don't know.

I just turned 20, and my grandmother gave me enough to cover about half of that. I have a fairly substantial amount of money in my bank account, so paying the difference wouldn't mean I have to starve, or anything, and I think my parents would probably be willing to chip in a small portion of the difference, as well, because it's a tax deductable donation, rather than paying Adam Pascal's mortgage, or something.

But, I haven't really decided yet in my own mind if I think it's justified; last summer, when I heard about this, I figured that $300 is around what I would be able to pay. But am I willing? It's a huge deal, it's a great cause, but that's a LOT of money. I'm gonna talk to my parents about it, I guess. I really don't know what to do. Yes, I want to go, but I think I'd also, even though it's for charity, feel a little bit guilty about spending that kind of money on one night. My gut says I'll end up opting out.

.... beacuse you all wanted to read the thought process of my dilemma.

re: Nederlander Mezz question

Yeah, $300 seems reasonable and not as crazy. The extra $200 just puts it over the edge as unreasonable. But not unreasonable enough for me to keep thinking about it.
I'm pretty cheap, in general, so $500 for one night seems too extreme. Even though it's for great causes and even though it's tax deductible. But I'm also the type of person who doesn't like to miss out on anything, so I don't know.

One minute I'm like "okay, I'm gonna do it, *deep breath*" and the next I'm like "no, it's okay, I'm fine with not going." gr.

Em, I envy you, even if you do decide to pass on the evening. I'm starting Tech week for this show I'm doing Monday night, and it's killing me!! Hee. I refuse to even go try lotto just for the hell of it, because lord knows I'll win the one time I can't go!
I also envy you because your Raul icon? Makes me drool.

Good luck making your decision!! =)
