I'm going to NYC on the 5th of July. I am having the hardest time deciding whether to go to Spelling Bee or the Light on the Piazza. Please, help me make my decision! I'm buying tickets tomorrow.

Spelling Bee = Funny
Piazza = Serious
Take your pick, they're both good shows :0)
TOOOOOOOOOOOTALLY different shows but if I had to choose, I'd go with Bee. Its wonderful and seems to appeal to mostly everyone while Piazza has a certain something that doesnt appeal to certain people.
Yeah, like Pinguin was saying - give us more details as to what kind of shows float your boat and what kinda show you're in the mood for - they're both amazing amazing shows but different genres.
Flip a coin.
I'm 18, and going with my parents. We all love musical theatre. Last year we saw Avenue Q together, and absolutely loved it. It's my mom's favourite show. My dad's favourite show is Les Miserables. My favourite show is Little Shop of Horrors. We are an eclectic bunch of Theatre-Goers, and have seen alot of musicals.
On this trip we are already seeing Hairspray, DRS, and Forbidden Broadway.
I laughed my butt off during the Tony awards performance of Bee, but I thought that Piazza sounded beautiful. I hope that helps. Which one should we see?

Piazza IS beautiful, but based on what you wrote, I'd say see Spelling Bee. It's more likely to appeal to all of the members of your family.

Well, you're seeing three comedies, so maybe Piazza will bring a different theme to the table. I would go with Piazza, just because Spelling Bee is yet another comedy to add to that table. And if you wanna see a good production, Piazza won a crapload of Tony's in production.
Good point; if you want to expand your tastes a bit, it's a good show to see.
ACK! My computer went mad. Sorry 'bout that.
And if you haven't been to the Vivian Beaumont, it's a great theatre too...
Spelling Bee is sort of a fun little show. I suppose it's what you're up for :0)
grrr.... this is so frustrating. I hate making decisions. Now my mom is suggesting Rent as well.
So we must decide between Piazza, Bee, or Rent.
Help!

Now, nobody shoot me for this... but Rent is coming out on film with most of the original cast in November. Say what you want, but the productiono of Rent isn't that extravagant that it's worth paying that much money for... don't get me wrong, Rent is a great show, but I still stand by what I said before. Piazza is probably your best bet, because it's a good production, it has good music, and it's a new show, so you'll be seeing the Original Cast, something that may not happen if you go see the show later on.
A nice tie breaker sometimes is just to see which show you can get the best seats to among those 3 choices you can't really go wrong

When trying to decide on a show, I also take the production into account. Will you ever be able to see as good a production, or even any production of, this show? BEE will be done everywhere, in every community, regional and college theater as soon as rights are available. As someone else noted, the RENT film with most of the original cast will be out before the end of the year. I don't think you'll ever see a more lavish and perhaps not a better acted production of PIAZZA. If the score and story appeals to you, why not go for it? It is certainly a much different show than HAIRSPRAY and DRS.

I sense that the original cast of Piazza will be the only cast.
As good as it is, I don't see it having huge commercial appeal, (unfortunately that does not say much for the general ticket buying public).
I don't foresee a long run, or any road productions.
Bee, on the other hand, could be around a while, and easily go on the road. Bee has broad commercial appeal, it's funny, and has alot of heart.
I would see Piazza now before it's gone, and come back to the Bee next time in town.

I havent seen Spelling Bee but between Rent and Piazza, I would definitely pick Piazza- Ive seen em both three times but I much prefer Piazza.
You have already chosen three comical shows. A serious musical like "Piazza" would perfectly balance out your trip.
I wouldn't recommend Blight In The Piazza - I wasn't bored, but I spent a lot of time thinking that I was about to be bored.
Spelling Bee is pure enjoyment, with a great cast. It's in a much smaller theater than most Broadway musicals, so it is a much more intimate experience, and that might be quite appealing as well for your family.
Haha, do you mean Piazza, Thenardier?
I'd also so Piazza, only because it's a limited engagement and will close well before Spelling Bee does. And also it'll be a nice mix amidst all of those musical comedies.

I say Piazza, because it's a limited run. And, if it doesn't extend, it'll be sad that you missed it, it's a beautiful show.

I haven't seen either, but I'd definetely go with Piazza if I were you. I'm listening to the recording right now and it's beautiful - just the kind of stuff I like. I'm jealous you have the chance to see it!
