Need a recommendation, please

A co-worker of mine is making her yearly trip to NYC over Thanksgiving. She really wants to see Falsettos, but her family isn't interested.

She can only see ONE show. She wants to know what show she should see, given these circumstances. Can you guys help out?

Her favorite shows that she's seen in NY are Sideshow (the original, not the revival so much), Mary Poppins, and Miss Saigon. She is not that big a Sondheim fan (she respects him, but just isn't that big a fan. I know). She is 43 years old.

What do you guys think she should see?

The Color Purple with Cynthia Erivo.

I know some will think I'm crazy for suggesting this, but I think Holiday Inn is such a delight. It'd be among my top picks for family coming to town who may not be all that interested in seeing a show that steps "outside of the box" or one that requires intellectualization of the experience. It's just plain fun.

Color Purple or Great Comet of 1812, IMO.

If it has to be a Broadway musical, I'd recommend The Color Purple as well. No questions asked. No seriously, ask her to watch it.

Otherwise, there's several good plays going on - Heisenberg (poignant drama), or The Front Page (comedy).

She can always go away from Broadway and see if she can grab seats for Sweet Charity

She should see Falsettos. And her family should see whatever show they want.

Guys THANK YOU for all the great suggestions.

She wants to know if she should maybe do Bronx Tale. Is there any scuttlebutt about that one?

Thanks again!

I don't know how often she comes to the city and what else she's see, but what about BEAUTIFUL It's a wonderful show and great for families.

I second Dear Evan Hansen, While i loved Color Purple and Cynthia's performance the show as a whole is somewhat depressing, while DEH can also be sad and depressing I find the ending to be much more happy.

DEH is FAR more depressing than Purple.

Color Purple's ending is uplifting af. It's seriously church - in the most spiritual way possible.

And lovebwy - A Bronx Tale has music by Alan menken, but the reviews for the book weren't very strong. It has a decent cast and director though. You can ask your friend to watch the Broadway.com vlog to get the feel of the piece before deciding to go for that.

I second haterobics. It's not even that big of a deal to separate considering most theaters are so close to one another.
