These theaters never have a long standing show, and they rarely get good grosses. Let's face it. The latest shows in the Brooks Atkinson are It Shoulda Been You and Love Letters. Spring Awakening is in it now. The Neil Simon has hosted Gigi, The Last Ship, and Big Fish. What do you think??

If we're starting this cursed theaters thread, add the Nederlander to the list.

Yeah, Rent and Newsies were... flops?
Of all theatres I'd say the lyric is by far the most cursed. It hasn't had a show recoup yet.

^ and don't forget Million Dollar Quartet ran for over a year.
There's another, heh. You don't need a cursed theater for Honeymoon in Vegas and Amazing Grace.
I previously brought up the idea of the Simon being cursed and I was told I was dreaming and theaters are not cursed.

Correct.

Never? Come Blow Your Horn, Same Time, Next Year, Hairspray...
"What do you think??"
See above.
Hairspray was anything but a flop
Yes, after coming offstage from Il Trovatore at the Metropolitan Opera, Azucena visits the theatre district and curses Broadway theatres. She does so to avenge the Broadway career of Irra Petina. "Sei vendicata, o madre!" she exclaims, as she crumples to a heap in front of the Copacabana.
Yeah, Hairspray and All the Way were huge flops.
And just who or what would have placed the curse?
There is no such thing as a cursed theater. Shows flop more often then succeed, pure and simple.
So your hypothesis is that it is the building that caused the plays to be bad rather than the creative team.
Or it is the building that caused the reviews to be bad - rather than the plays being the cause of the bad reviews.
Or that it is the building that caused playgoers to enjoy the plays less, rather than the play itself being the cause.
Or that logic isn't one of your strong suits.
"IT'S THE BUILDING! GRAB YOUR TORCH AND PITCH FORK"
No, silly, the cursed buildings actually repel ticket buyers from making their purchase. It's so cursed it even effects online sales.
I think the curse is that the bad theaters lure the bad shows to be booked there.
The only theater that currently is cursed is the Mark Hellenger. Legs Diamond was the final finger ****on the spindle that has caused the theater to lie trapped in its present state.
The Martin Beck may at one time have been cursed, but the name change lifted the curse and has allowed for hits to come back to the theater.

The Belasco doesn't have the best history either..but I don't think that means it is cursed. Statistics and fickle audiences? That is the curse.

All the Way was a hit. It recouped. The only reason there have been so many flops in each theater is bad luck and dumb producers.
There's no such thing as a curse in this case. Not even the Lyric. Everyone who books the Lyric and expects to recoup is just delusional.
All recouped as it was star driven and a limited engagement
The shows you allude to were not necessarily bad but just did not catch on.We saw many of them. You probably disagree and you are entitled to your opinion. It's location does not help .I still feel it is cursed and maybe after 3 or 4 more flops people may change their mind. Listing 1 show to bolster your argument is not necessarily a strong point.
Neither is blaming a physical entity for why a show fails. You're right, not all shows that DO failed are bad shows, but if people don't want to see them, which building they are in doesn't sway that by any means. No one decides to see a show based on which theater its in.
Have you really ever heard someone say, "Gee, let's go see whatever's playing at the Eugene O'Neill?" Nope, they go to see the SHOW that happens to be playing at the Eugene O'Neill.
You guys are starting to scare me. I,perhaps, can ignore a casual use of the word "cursed" but I'm inferring a more literal use and actual belief in a curse.
This is not 1350. Science has taught us that each event has a cause. Come on guys. Please tell me you don't believe in curses.
Realize that this thread is absurd.
I cannot change the title as I did not start it.Having said that, I will use the term "Bad Luck Theaters" going forward if that helps.
Most of the shows that have flopped at the Simon since Hairspray was there would've flopped anywhere.

This is very good.
