New "Footloose" w/ Kevin Bacon#0

A long while ago, Kevin Bacon did an interview for some A&E special and he talked about how he and Harvey Weinstein were working on redoing the Footloose musical book and changing/rewriting/adding/cutting/tearing apart the score, then restaging it back on Broadway with 'Le Bacon' as the Rev. Shaw Moore... anyone heard any news on this?
Also, IMDB has a Footloose (2005) as a work in progress... I last heard the Britney Spears or Elizabeth Berkeley (Saved By the Bell, Showgirls) were being considered being cast as Ariel in the movie. I think Berkeley is too old, personally.
But does anyone know anything about either Footloose project?

I agree on Berkeley being too old.
I also think Britney is too bad of an actress.

Posted: 6/18/04 at 12:27pmA new Footloose would be rather successful... if you think about it, Footloose was one of (if not the) first musical to use a specific artist or movie's songbook as it's (or most of it's) score. And since Mamma Mia and The Boy from Oz have done so well in New York, not to mention We Will Rock You in London, why not??

I think I will jump off a cliff is Britney comes to Broadway. Seriously. It will be the most horrible thing EVER!!!!!!
Wasn't Footloose on Broadway a few years back? I remember seeing it in maybe '99 or 2000. But it's a good show, so it's ok.

Posted: 6/18/04 at 1:07pmFootloose is a good show, good songs, good danceing, the only thing it lacks is a good plot. But then again it just wouldn't be Footloose with a good plot.

Posted: 6/18/04 at 1:13pmI too will jump off a cliff if one of America's most famous performers actually PERFORMS and gets 100% capacity and keeps hundreds of people in work for 6 months. It would be simply awful!

Posted: 6/18/04 at 2:31pmActually the funny thing is , Brittney has already been on broadway, in ruthless.

RUTHLESS was off-Broadway...
Britney was understudy to Wickedly wonderful Laura Bell Bundy.. you know what the means?? Britney is only one or two degrees-of-separation away from playing Glinda or Amber Von Tussle!!!! EEK!

The difference between Laura Bell Bundy and her former understudy Britney Spears:
Since Ruthless, one has decided to continue vocal training to make it big.
The other one decided to date the front man of a boy band to make it big.
To each her own.

Posted: 6/18/04 at 6:46pmwow ... this is so funny - Britney Spears AND Elizabeth Berkley! I mean I don't even know how to respond to that. It's almost too much for me to comprehend!

Posted: 6/18/04 at 8:43pmI loved Footloose when it was on Broadway---I actually just got the part of Williard in a community theater production of it...for some reason, I just can't imagine Kevin Bacon as the Reverand or Britney/Elizabeth as Ariel.

Posted: 6/18/04 at 9:00pmFootloose, the name alone will put butts in the seat. It would be a beautiful oppurtunity to get some semi-new faces in along with one or two established stars. But hey, if they do use a lot of stars, try and keep it to broadway. The less ex-mouseketeers the better.

The 1st Equity national tour of Footloose, in Dec. '98, was the first Broadway musical that I saw. I really wish I saved the program! It was the same exact production as on Broadway. We were front row center. The conductor talked to me and asked me if I was interested in being up there someday...I said yes (would say no today
). The 1st thing I remember seeing was the big, green tarp that said "FOOTLOOSE." I was in awe as soon as the music began!
Wow, this kind of makes me sad...if it was not for this, I would not be on this board or doing what I actually love to do.

As far as musicals go, "Footloose" is just as exhilerating and enjoyable as they come. It's a very underrated show. Not much of a plot? Yeah, right.
Anyway, this is my dream cast for the movie...
Ren McCormick - USHER RAYMOND
Rev. Shaw Moore - KEVIN KLINE
Ariel Moore - MANDY MOORE
Vi Moore - CYBILL SHEPARD
Willard Hewitt - TOPHER GRACE
Rusty Rubin - TAMYRA GRAY
Chuck Cranston - ROBBIE CARMINE
Ethel McCormick - VANESSA L. WILLIAMS
Wendy Jo - ANNE HATHAWAY
Urleen - MARISSA JARET WINOKUR
Irene - ELIZABETH BERKLEY

Posted: 6/19/04 at 3:05pmThen the sets have not been chopped up for fire wood? (Forbidden Broadway joke).

That's some creative casting there, BW86.
I really don't get the Topher/Willard thing.
Or the Mandy/Ariel thing.
To the extent that I have to wonder if you're joking.
But I like Kevin Kline so much as the Reverand that I'm just going to ignore the other people you've casted and go on my way without calling you insane.
Ciao!
